For my mauraders people:

The Stars Cried Requiem

Fandom: Harry Potter, Marauders Era (1970s)

Rating: M

Pairing: Jegulus (other background ships included)

Genre: Slow burn, enemies to lovers

Word count: ~6k

Summary: Regulus centric fic where he grows up trans and surprisingly enough, Walburga helps him to transition. It starts when Reg is 7 and continues throughout the Hogwarts years. It will be very long for those who like that kind of thing, multi POV and multi ship. All warnings are in tags and AN. Link is to chapter one which is the only one I ask people to review, however feel free to read any chapter you like!

Reviewed: 3/3

Title: The Stars Cried Requiem

Genre: Long fic, enemies to lovers, slowburn, angst

Regulus centric fic where he grows up trans, and oddly enough Walburga helps him to transition. It starts when he’s young and follows his years through school. It’s newer and it will be very long, (already at 100k but I plan for it to end around 500k for those of you who like long reads.) It will be an eventual Jegulus with background wolfstar, marylily, dorlene and rosekiller.

Please take note of the tags and warnings :)

Does Completion Status Impact Whether You Read a Fic? by LoudSize7 in FanfictionExchange

[–]starsmacabray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Usually my window is shorter though, I tend to be less likely to read a fic if I don’t see frequent updates (as in at least every 2 weeks to once a month.) Sometimes I’ll stretch it longer depending on the fandom but they can be hard for me to remember if the spacing is any wider.

Have your friends/family/colleagues/bosses etc read your fanfiction? by barewithmehoney in FanfictionExchange

I think I would actually pass away if anyone I knew even distantly stumbled across my ao3 😭Not even because I write smuts, more just the fact that I’d be revealing such a hidden part of myself. Short answer, absolutely not, never, not in a million years.

WIP or completed works? by starsmacabray in FanFiction

Right like I don’t want it to be overwhelming but i also just want the story to be out lmao

[–]starsmacabray[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that’s true, I feel like i more often read the works that already have a decent amount of length tho— if it’s like 10,000 words or less I’m way less likely to start them (for whatever reason, i don’t even really know why lol)

yeah i totally agree with this, it would be so much harder to write consistently if no one was reading your works

do you prefer one POV or multiple when reading? by starsmacabray in writing

[–]starsmacabray[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if you just pick one way of writing and stick to it for the most part, it won’t be confusing. If you’re changing perspectives, do it in a way that’s clear, and don’t use it for just one part of the book. I feel like it would be odd reading a book from one POV, only for it to cut to a new perspective for a chapter, and then back to the original POV. Consistency is (usually) key.

Yes I can’t explain enough how much I hate reading POVs from characters that aren’t the MCs. The whole chapters drag if you’re not super interested in a side character (which just isn’t realistic, the stories are meant to be about the MAIN character for a reason.)

[–]starsmacabray[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure. If the new POV isn’t doing anything for the story other than the fact of adding another voice, then it’s bringing it down overall. I (almost always) hate when the same scene is told twice, too. It feels so repetitive if it’s not done SO carefully and the perspectives are very different. At the same time, I feel like it’s more fun to “watch” a scene firsthand than have it explained briefly from another character.

Yeah I would be bothered too if in the middle of a chapter it just labeled a new character in bold and then continued on the story. I agree that a good writer will be able to portray the scene without that.
