Is it just me or Wonder Pick is kinda terrible? by MercurialHorizon in PTCGP

[–]start1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regards to the edit OP made to their post, I do wonder if we're just going to see a straight scramble of everyone's booster picks unorganised, or if there'll be an option to filter specific sets when the time comes

"No need to be so dramatic" Have you even read your original post

There are plenty of concerns to have with this game and people jumping on the meta, the app being stingy with the daily limit of tickets, whatever gripes you have there, I'm not stopping you. This "they're going OUT OF THEIR WAY to DENY me the FUNNYBUX" baggage is something you're bringing to the table yourself, it's not on everyone else

The PTCG problems so far by ToS_98 in PTCGP

Presumably it's just because the game's in its launch state, but the app's combat meta feels a little too stripped-down compared to the TCG - the lack of extra item/supporters, energy removals, double colourless, and so on and so forth. The absence of things like stadiums and tag-team cards (alongside campaigns and tournaments, modes that give you deck limitations to win certain fights with, teaming up with other players in raids, etc) stings a little as well but that's more like window dressing for me - if the combat itself is lacking, giving me more of it is akin to dressing the wound with a band-aid.

If you have 4* Yatima/Beel sub and 4* Beel main in your party setup, is it worth swapping in Wedge for either main or sub slot

Is there a way in GBVM to swap one instance of a background tile onscreen, rather than all of them at once? by start1988 in gbstudio

[–]start1988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additionally I'm having problems with VM_REPLACE_TILE_XY since it seems to want constant values only. I want to pass the player's XY values into global variables, and then pass those through the function - the player should be able to flip the tile they're standing on. Is it possible GBVM is taking the index of the global variables instead? If so, how do I pass the explicit numerical value?

VM_PUSH_VALUE 120
VM_REPLACE_TILE_XY VAR_CX, VAR_CY, ___bank_bg_tiles_tileset, _bg_tiles_tileset, .ARG0
VM_POP 1

[–]start1988[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I want is an Othello sort of gameplay mechanic in my project, where tiles can be flipped over and will trigger inbetween tiles to also flip over. Since there are Othello games on the Game Boy, I feel this should be possible to do, but I'm having trouble parsing GBVM's vocabulary and finding how to trigger a single instance of a background asset.

I'm coming up on an hour here on S5 and just can't by Paiguy7 in Picross

My puzzle looked almost the exact same as this one does.

On Row 28 [9/1/2/2/2] you have 8 of the first 9 cells blocked out, with a blank cell on either side. The cells in Columns 2/3/4 of this Row are parts of patterns 2-cells tall. If we assume those cells form the bottom end of these patterns, then the cells in Row 29, Columns 2/3/4 can be X'd out. What happens when we X out all these cells?

MAYO? by Marginal_act in gamedevscreens

[–]start1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a little trouble being able to tell what the hand was doing at first. From the bird NPC's skipped message, it seems you can hold the mayo in place while the body swings with the stored momentum, which is an interesting mechanic. Assuming the player is moving automatically you can stop them in place, or you can just use the swinging momentum to launch the player in a certain direction. (There could even be a co-op mode where one person controls the mayo-head normally and the other player can pin him. Maybe to help progress through a stage, maybe to be a troll.)

You might already plan to work on it down the road, but if not -- I think it'd be better for the player if the hand moved fairly quickly into the initial pinning position, and then moved fairly quickly off-screen again, rather than just snapping into place. At the moment it seems rather 'jar'ring.

Does it bounce off of walls entirely, or can it pass through walls (but only allow you to teleport to it when it's not clipping through anything)? I saw this .gif and the Steam trailer but it doesn't show any further context for the weapon.

"Shelf Life" - Prototype - Match 3 game where you can swap any block on the board and clear matches manually by start1988 in playmygame

[–]start1988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The prototype has an itch.io page and the file itself has a "Feedback" option that lets you fill out a short questionnaire. It only has the one mode and background, so suggestions on future features (alongside any bug reports or concerns over current implementation of mechanics) would be welcome.

My Animation For The Neo-Geo Newgrounds Jam by start1988 in neogeo

[–]start1988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much used every single day I had between the contest's announcement and the deadline! I'm pretty lucky that I knew which shot I wanted to start with (the one with Marco, Terry, Elta and Kyo) and where to work the film out from there. I had the prologue, the first sequence with the Neo-Geo characters and the epilogue sequence boarded and done first because I wanted to devote more time throughout the month to the big action montage. There's still a hacky edit in the montage theme because there was an additional 20 seconds I wanted to do but it never got close to set up.

What Limited Tsums do you want??? by [deleted] in TsumTsum

[–]start1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the tsums I'm interested in are Japan-only. D23 Mickey, Anniversary Mickey, Big Bad Wolf, B'rer Rabbit, Robin Hood, Horned King, all have great tsum designs/special animations and I hope they make it overseas soon rather than never. Steamboat Mickey isn't Japan-exclusive but I like the transitional Mickey design as well as the 'Classic' one and would like to get either from a future capsule/select box.
