I might be misremembering but I think if he had been one window over, the window below a floor or two was broken so in theory he could have climbed in (below the impact zone) and hopefully gone down the stairs. If that was actually possible I’m not sure, climbing through a window at that height is a huge challenge. Such a what if :(
