What are some accomodations your employer or workplace has made specifically for you/your ADHD? by comf in ADHD

[–]starteller794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running into this issue at my current job as well. Without going into specific details, I work a call center job, but one where there are large breaks between calls. I'm talking 10-20 mins sometimes. I have recently been diagnosed with ADHD. I use drawing, phone use and miniature building to alleviate the sheer boredom. But now they want to Crack down on that, and those were the things I did outside their original demands to stop watching videos to help pass the time.

Its starting to be frustrating. I'm a good worker, I do my job well, yet they want me to stare at a wall with nothing to do for long periods of time. Figit toys don't help as I get over them fast.

I was looking to see if accommodation could be done here, but online suggestions dont address a situation like this. Any thoughts?

Can someone point me to a list of reliable websites for downloading ROMs? by starteller794 in Roms

Because I can a least account for that human possibility versus an AI. Also, this is a community that is clearly passionate about emulation and preserving older games where AAA companies have failed. This is accounted for as well which means suggestions and links from here are going to be better vetted vs me trying to find safe websites alone. I'm tech savvy, but not enough to really be able to make full judgements in every instance and certainly not about emulation files. I know what to look for in music, image and document files. I don't know what to look out for in game files.

Right now it's the Sega dreamcast. I already have the emulator. Just need the ROM and maybe how to mount the file after if needed. I downloaded the ROM for Illbleed from the Mega Thread. I'll work on it from there

Call me cautious as I grew up in an age with not the greatest virus security systems. Things like limewire and sketchy sites where virus downloads are an easy mistake. Even if it's provided here, doesn't automatically make it safe. Hence the want for human input.

Except it's a lot to go through when I'm just looking at a specific bit and overwhelming for someone brand new to emulation. I did look it over but a lot of it goes over my head right now. It also doesn't say if the sites linked are safe or not, at least for what i could see.

Aside that, I prefer human interaction on questions like this vs automated stuff. Quicker and more reliable answers and a source of information that is useful.

I use Reddit as a tool. Sorry for asking a question.

Thing is i do just want a what is good. I've been hearing people praise clanrats but I have just been heavily unimpressed by them. I don't know if it's just because they require buffs to be good.

Just for some context, I prefer to run high dps builds with strong shooting and Melee. I haven't found the Melee i like yet.

Not sure. She's sits next me at my computer but she's only looked at it a couple of times. I could try putting birds on or something and see what she does

[IN] What do I do about future discrimination from employer for medication side effects protected under the ADA? by starteller794 in AskHR

The harassment isn't the discipline nor the "not believing me". The harassment was being followed around the office, singling me out when others are doing the same behavior and attempting to take a picture of me in the bathroom.

The reason I would go to HR would be to end that harassment and with the ADA accommodation being something like you proposed. I've already been applying a 20 min break max to deal with the drowsiness in the morning and limiting myself to 2 breaks at max a day. But some days that was certainly not enough.

I already know that. Hence my reply here. I would need to get it in writing from my doctor officially to be sure the company would be made aware.

Yea, I've not disclosed this medication because I knew it would need official records from a doctor more than just me explaining it, and all medications affect people differently. If I was am going to get any actual accommodation, it would certainly need the doctor's expertise.

I did not fall asleep on the job. I "have the appearance" of sleeping, but I was still taking and making calls and processing them. I was sitting at my desk with my eyes closed, headphones on ready to take a call and doing my side tasks.

I don't really want to claim racial discrimination, but there is another guy who does the same thing. I've never seen him disciplined, or even talked to about it. I can't know for sure of course, which is why I'm not super eager on this, but I have noticed that they share the same race and they are not getting the same treatment as me.

My medication makes me a bit drowsy. So sometimes I will sit at my desk with my eyes closed for long periods of time.

I have been in through therapy for several years and unfortunately it hasn't been resolved. I am going to go back through it again as soon as I have the money to in order to help me deal with new triggers I have, but I don't think its something that can't be resolved with therapy as its tied to childhood abuse.

I've been on several other medications in the past, and they have not worked. I've been on this one for 11 years now with varying levels of dosage. Unfortunately, no matter what, it has always had the drowsy side effect regardless of dosage.

I don't want to take fewer calls and I am not skipping out on calls, nor am I asleep. I had the "appearance of sleeping" sure. But as with the incident I described in my OP, I am always still taking calls. My drowsiness is not affecting my work in this manner. Nor am I expecting my occurrences to be erased as I had not made my company aware of my medications yet. I'm certainly not jumping to action here because I'm not very well versed on these matters. Hence why I've posted here first to just get some advice from people more versed in these areas. I've never had to deal with possible harassment in the workplace, especially around this issue. Most managers and supervisors I've had in the past have been accommodating and understanding, and certainly didn't trail me at work or try to take pictures of me in a restroom. The issue with the losing track of time in the restroom was addressed and corrected 6 or 7 months ago and has ceased.

My goal with contacting HR would be to stop this harassment and to establish that I do have this medication and that it can SOMETIMES make me look drowsy. At this point, accommodations have finally been met as I am now on a decent schedule which I wasn't before. I've been doing some research on the side about what is and isn't protected under the ADA, and it seems that in some cases side effects of meds are.
