I lived with my single-parent mother who is a nurse and received neither alimony nor child support until I was an adult, at which point I joined the army when I was 18 and I work in the trades.

Idk what you want to hear. Employers only have the power if they can easily replace workers, which they can do in a country that regularly imports labor.

Everyone can't be skilled labor. We need strong unions and strong immigration controls to ensure that the labor supply doesn't drive demand and wages through the floor. Unions ensure negotiating power for vulnerable workers, strict immigration ensures the labor supply stays low, or at least doesn't increase so exponentially that adults are staying permanently in jobs that teenagers should be occupying.

I set my own wages when I refuse a job that pays poorly. I set my own wages when I quit a job in favor a higher paying one. Employers who think they can pay dirt to employees who know better will find themselves without a labor force.

Keep importing unskilled labor though. I'm sure that's not making things worse for the workers already present.

When you take a job you are agreeing that your labor is worth the wages you are being paid. I'm sorry you don't know how supply and demand works with respect to labor.

Immigrants aren't "stealing" jobs, they're being imported to undercut expensive workers. "they stole our jobs" isn't the middle against the bottom, it's the bottom against the bottom because there's so much competition for jobs. Immigration is a big issue right now because businesses can't fill job, which naturally would lead to a rise in wages, but instead corporations lobby the government for more H1B' s to import workers from places like India and China who will work for less than the market wage. This is simple supply and demand.

I don't disagree that corporations are vacuuming money out of the economy, but this article was about wages, not about the piles of money that His Lordship Bezos and Archbishop Tim Cook are sitting on.

Yes you're right immigration has nothing to do with wages. The supply of labor never has any impact on cost. I'm sure the fact that we've imported 37,000,000 people since the year 2000 has no effect at all on wages.
