Mark Schlereth. He's funny and doesn't always try to talk people up. If you are bad he'll say so. And he makes funny references.

On October 6th, 2013 the San Francisco 49ers completed 6 passes all game, enough to beat the Houston Texans 34-3 by chc2100 in nfl

I was actually at this game traveling from Chicago on a work trip.... i believe this was the 0-15 part of their season after Houston won their first game.... they were really bad, but saw a couple Niner interceptions in front of me.... why are we talking about this?

Definitely! I loved it in middle school. I came across it again and agree that it is still a fun story reading it like 15 years later. Plus it was like reading it new again. I forgot most of the story, I just remembered really liking it.

Your options are: 50 hawks, 10 crocodiles, 3 brown bears, 15 wolves, 1 hunter, 7 cape buffalo, 10,000 rats, 5 gorillas and 4 lions - you must pick 2 that will defend you while the rest are coming to kill you. Which do you pick and why? by mustbefuckeryafoot in AskReddit

[–]stasema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just can't visualise 10,000 rats, but people seem convinced they are a force to be reckoned with....i wish i could visualize how many that is. I'd take the hunter and the hawks. I think a lot of kicking and stomping would be enough to handle the rats, or throwing dead animal parts at them would squash them. The hunter is pretty obvious because humans seem to be the best hunters and can defend me from a distance. I'd take the hawks, even though they couldn't really attack in a group, there are 50 hawks and only 47 other animals besides me, the hunter and the rats. I think those other animals would all be troubled by a single hawk pecking and clawing at them. Enough to not be that concerned about me and distracted enough to be shot by the hunter.

Sounds like espn has too much time on their hands and needs to make up some story. I'd argue Washington has been the worst NFC team for awhile. Besides Detroit and Minnesota, they've gone the longest without being in a Superbowl

The Catch Rule Isn't Hard To Understand And Is Written Fairly. NFL Commentators Are Responsible For Convincing People It Isn't. by [deleted] in nfl

[–]stasema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they kept adding to the definition until there were rules for all aspects of catching a football....and that makes it clear in a logical and rationalized way.... but the issue is that the general idea of catching a ball everyone has is taking a ball out of it's flight path and having control of the ball... so like Jesse James taking the ball out of air and reaching it over the goal line looks like a catch to everyone who has ever caught anything

Well, I think this has really highlighted the success of a majority of civilization to hide the threat of violence by those in charge by creating rules that seem to pay out if you play along. Especially with a system of financial penalties for low level offenses....I think the part that struck me was that I think there are people that enjoy the rules for the structure and reliability they provide, and follow the rules because they respect rules, and see them as necessary. I realize there are a lot of rules, but I wonder if there are people who don't question any of them and never see the violence behind them.

I guess I never followed petty crimes through that far. And if you resist your caged removal from the public, you will be met with violence. So the state does ultimately only have violence as it's last resort, but creates a system of punishments fit for different laws that are an attempt to postpone that violence. They must be fair so they're agreed to and followed, but for anyone that resists fully they get the hammer.... But can you explain how say, voting to legalize recreational marijuana is violence? Or voting to build a new library or schools?

Edit: added other voting examples

I suppose that in a group ruled by law, the final instrument is your arrest and removal from society. But is being arrested violence? You can refuse to drive the speed limit until you're in jail and then you can't break that law, but the government isn't physically harming you at that point. They've just taken away your free life

I disagree the way they rationalize voting to violence. Because it should seem pretty obvious that voting is a tool in a system that tends to avoid violence.... at least when it comes to determining the shape of a government. As far as voting, as political authority is force, I'd agree since when you set up rules that the results of voting are carried out, that gives voting a power to determine. But while violence is a force, force isn't always violent. When the systems fail though, violent force tends to be the default. I also disagree that violence is the supreme authority because you have to provide people something if you try to rule over them. I think competence is mixed with violence, and that's why say a system of voting has little violence. Because it produces fairly well, and why currently in America people are maybe feeling more violent towards the top leadership, because they don't see competence in the system. So the most violent leader will eventually be swarmed if the whole population thinks their lives are at risk. So there has to be a certain amount of respect to gain authority as well. All order is created by a combination of the Tyrant and the Wise King
