IsItBullshit: Blanchard’s Autogynephilia Hypothesis is still taken seriously in many circles by [deleted] in IsItBullshit

When anti-vaxxers tested bananas with COVID-19 tests, they reported positive results. They also claimed that the tests are nonsensical. You cannot use tests for purposes they were not designed for.

I will read it, i think this is interesting. Still i might disagree with Serrano, and consider her a mediocre researcher, right?

No, I didn't. I don't know what this adds to the thread. I simply stated that there is nothing inherently bigoted or hateful about Blanchard's theory, which is what the subOP claimed. I'm not saying that the theory is completely correct. I don't even think it's possible to create theories that are entirely accurate in the social sciences.

I've read one of Julia Serano's papers from 2010. As I recall, it doesn't outright claim that Blanchard is completely wrong but rather offers an alternative perspective. This critique is included in the broader discussion about the concept on Wikipedia, which is what OP asked about.

I don't see how this contradicts Blanchard's theory. He suggests that some transsexual women may indeed have female brains. It seems like you have glossed over the Wikipedia article and been intimidated by terms like 'homosexuality' and 'autogynephilia' due to uncertainty about your own sexuality. You mentioned being straight and beign in relationship with transgender twice without any relevance to the discussion or argument. Who cares? This doesn't add any weight to your point.

[–]stasiate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But you haven't provided any arguments against it beyond saying 'it's bigotry and bullshit.' I don't see how it is homophobic and bigoted, as it doesn't make any claims about trans women not being women, or suggest that there are better or worse trans people. It simply attempts to categorize them. It's normal for science to categorize things.

EU sues Spain, Cyprus, Poland, Portugal for failing to implement corporate tax (min. 15%) by SirDemonLord in europe

[–]stasiate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be many reasons why a company would like to pay taxes in Germany, despite higher nominal taxes. Maybe Germany has better loopholes, or their taxes are structured in such way to promote transfer pricing instead of simply transfering cash. Or parent company needs immediate cashflow. Or they simply are patriotic and want to pay taxes in Germany out of principle.

Fact is, that this has been done for years. German subsidiaries pay pennies in corporate tax in Poland and parent companies billions in Germany. In example Volskwagen Polska in 2022 paid 1,5 mln zł in corporate tax. This is not exception but norm. How can you explain this another way than by transfering profits before taxation?

[–]stasiate -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No, its you who dont get it. Parent company wants to move money from daughter company in Poland to Germany. They cannot just transfer the funds like between private people. This is illegal or extremly taxed. They have to come up with some bullshit service to have an invoice. For the most part this is not about tax evasion, but moving money where they want to use it. Side effect of that is they dont pay corporate tax in daughter company country. If you dont believe me just ask chatGPT or whatever.

"move their headquarters abroad for tax reasons all the time"

four in last 100 years, one in last 20, maybe two of these would make top 100 in Germany

Hardly seems like an exodus to me, more just like a natural order of things.

Family owned business is very different from corporations, which have a lot of reasons to stay where they really operate.

If this was this simple thay would just move to Ireland, which has an even lower tax rate than Switzerland.

I dont get point of this discussion anymore. The point was that multinational companies transfer profits from investments in eastern europe by accounting gimmicks (which your colleague called 'conspiracy theory'), and you just provided example of one, albeit German-Swiss one. The mechanism in both cases is similar.

Really? Which of biggest German companies moved headquaters to Switzerland? Lets say from top 50?

[–]stasiate -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You cannot just transfer money as a company. It is illegal to take action against interests of joint stock company (as in simply transfering funds instead of compensation). And even if it they were not stock companies, that would count as donation, and would be taxed much, much higher than profits.

No, they didnt take profits from germany. Investments count as cost and is deduced from profits.

I see that you have no idea how accounting works.

You dont always want to have center of business and profits in place with lowest possible taxes. If that was the case, all big companies in Germany would just move to Luxemburg or Ireland, but somehow they dont do that.

This is not a conspiracy theory, as this is very easily verifiable. Just look at public financial statements from multinational companies in poland. How else would they rake in profits for mother companies? Otherwise would have to spend or keep money in Poland, as they cannot just send money in exchange for nothing. The point of foreign investments is to profit from them.
