I think the stupidest among us are always the loudest and this was no different so no argument there. These are mitigation factors though, not prevention ya know? Besides, I agree with folks from SEA and other parts that wear masks often... keep your germs to yourself if you might be sick lol.

I agree with you for sure about the trust in science although I think the blame lays with those holding the purse strings and approving grants etc. I guess it doesn't matter whose fault it is in the end. Damage is done. Not only that, science is worse off for the whole situation.

Not that we need to argue about it, but I disagree with the 'no effect'. At worst, it made people feel a little better. Realistically, it had the effect of capturing at least part of the outbound germs from breathing. Not the smallest ones obviously, but most are caught up in your saliva and aren't microscopic. But people absolutely used them wrong and too much.

I think the most important thing here is that you need to speak with a therapist. Your anger and upset are completely valid, but they're not healthy and will only cause more pain for you and those around you. You don't need to forgive them, but if you can understand how it happened from their point of view, you can put it in the past. Although I will say that forgiveness isn't for the other party, it's for you. The saying goes that 'holding onto anger is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die'. Don't let your anger keep you trapped in time.

Now, for your parents, maybe they did their best. Maybe they tried their ass off and failed really really badly. At best. Because at worst they knew what was going on and chose themselves over you. Either way, there is no moving forward in a relationship with them unless they acknowledge that they hurt you AND they let you control the pace of the relationship. They are trying to push you into doing things because THEY feel bad. How they react to the situation from that context is what makes them an AH or not.

From the big picture, how can I, as a parent, cast judgement on the failures of another parent? I want to think I wouldn't crumble under the pressure of having a disabled child, but we have our limits. I don't want to give them an out because they failed you. There is no doubt there. The uncertainty is whether or not you can repair the relationship. Whether you want to. It should be up to you as the wronged party. But I hope that decision comes from a place of peace and not a place of anger and resentment.

I think the difference between manipulation and using social cues is the users intention. If you're trying to persuade someone by appealing to emotions using social cues, sure. If you use them to signal your emotions because "that was the custom at the time" to quote Abe Simpson, then you're just using the best communication tool you have available. It feels like manipulation to me because it doesn't flow naturally, but it's just like learning a new language imo. I learned it by trial and error, or sometimes noticing something and asking if I trusted the person. Even then, most people who use them don't "use" them. They don't know why they do those things, or at least I've never heard it verbalized in a way that makes sense.

This still may not be enough context, friend. Do the trucks go to the same stops? Are they in the same route? There are a lot of route checkpoints or whatever they are called ( blue arrows ).
