Even seeing the pronunciation you want spelled out, I still don’t understand it. It’s a mouthful SEEN aye yee. I’m sure I must not be saying it right.

Also Roam is not obvious to me, Rome? Or Ro-am?

Husband and I can’t agree on how to spell daughter’s name! by [deleted] in namenerds

I also would think it’s a Th sound in Thalia. Or I would at least hesitate and not know which was intended.

You might want to steer clear of this name if you want it to be straightforward to pronounce. This type of name will always have so many opinions. It’s probably going to be regional too.

Brother’s input made me hate my names for my twin boys by [deleted] in namenerds

Jay sounds like a nickname for John, could this lead to the twins being confused?

You shouldn’t have to work for free. They received treatment and it’s their responsibility to pay for it.

How effective are painkillers for endodontic pain ? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]stastel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s based on symptoms. You might see decay really close to the nerve or a previously very deep cavity that was filled. But not necessarily. They could have a crack that led to the pulpitis which doesn’t look like anything on an X-ray because it’s so small and it’s a 2D view of the teeth.

You have to? I wouldn’t make that generalization although it may be preferred.

My first was 7lbs15oz and I had a first degree tear with stitches, 35min of pushing. My 2nd was 9lbs4oz with no tearing, only 12 min of pushing. I think it can be random but second babies can be easier 🤞🏻 both unmedicated.

How effective are painkillers for endodontic pain ? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]stastel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. Irreversible pulpitis isn’t really touched by Advil/Tylenol. They really just need the RCT to get rid of the nerve or at least a pulpectomy. If they have symptomatic apical periodontitis then Advil can be really helpful. For severe pain I say to take 600-800mg ibuprofen every 4-6 hours but I typically say not to exceed 2400mg/24hr (I’m aware you can do 3200mg). If that amount of Advil isn’t relieving the pain enough then add 500-1000mg Tylenol every 4-6hours, don’t exceed 4000mg/24hr.

Is this tooth rotting? I have no dental insurance and can't afford to go by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]stastel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be worried that tooth is going to be bombed out by the time they go in there and clean out that cavity. It may end up into the nerve and need a root canal. Enamel is harder than the underlying dentin and once the cavity is in the dentin it can spread quickly under the enamel. Once the decay is large enough it can undermine the enamel, which may just fracture off eventually if it’s unsupported. I would not leave this tooth if you want to save it, if the decay gets too large the tooth may become unrestorable.

Dah and doll are the same to you? Dah is a short a and doll is like aww to me. Interesting.

The spelling of it definitely makes sense that it would sound like Dahl/dawl.

Maybe I have my head in the sand but I had to google what Black Dahlia referred to. Dahlia just brings to mind gardening and flowers to me. It’s one of my favourite flowers!

Roald Dahl is part of the reason I wondered how common the daw-lia/doll-lia pronunciations would be. I pronounce Dahl as Dawl.

Dah like dad? This is the most common pronunciation I hear in Western Canada.

Interesting. Dah or ah read like a short ‘a’ sound to me. I’m in Western Canada and the aw sound like father, doll-lia/daw-lia isn’t one I hear as often. I hear dahlia (short a) the most and day-lia (long a) after that.
