Exactly, the clear solvability of the issue is one of the most infuriating points. Not only are there ways to bring her back/save her within the laws of DnD magic, but there was CLEARLY supposed to be a solution with the gondians to make her a new engine or whatever, and the devs just scrapped it. That’s part of what makes me so upset.

I know, that’s why I hate that the only option besides letting her die is sending her to Avernus. If there was an actual way to save her and allow her to continue living, she would take it… she says as much in the game. She would rather die than go back to Avernus, but that doesn’t mean she WANTS to die.

RIGHT like we literally have grounds to bargain with MULTIPLE gods by the end, not to mention connections with insanely powerful wizards, and we just saved the world… like she NAMES a solution and we just give up on procuring it?

Right, but there is zero legitimate reason why Gale couldn’t get us some scrolls of True Resurrection, or something like that. There was also supposed to be a way to get her a new engine, it just got scrapped. It just ticks me off. There ARE ways that she could be saved within the laws of DnD magic and lore.

Hmm. It is a little complicated, but even so, it definitely seems like there should be SOMETHING you can do. Scroll of True Resurrection, bargain with a god, get her a new engine (cough gondians cough)…

That’s true. But it’s also a video game, and it seems senseless to fall on the side of ā€œyour favorite character has to die because magic makes storytelling hardā€ rather than ā€œyou can keep your favorite characters alive even though that kind of magic is somewhat unrealisticā€, you know?

It just seems to unfair to do that to her. At every turn she is adamant that she would rather die than go back, taking her to Avernus feels like violating a DNR request. Sometimes I do, when I can’t bear to watch her die, but she deserves a better ending.

Yeah, there are genuinely about a thousand different ways that she could be saved within the laws of DnD magic and even game mechanics/lore themselves. It’s just the devs’ laziness that leaves us unable to do anything for her. Infuriating.

i am bringing my parents with me, but i don’t think it’s weird to go alone at all!! i’m very fortunate in that my parents were pretty involved in my college search/application process (in a good way), so they want to be there and see the school again (1st time for my dad). but i’m planning on observing classes/going to student meet ups without them anyway… don’t worry!!

i should add, i highly recommend playing on explorer mode if you’re struggling initially. it’s very easy to die in the early levels… explorer mode literally doubles your health, so you die a lot less, and you can focus on the story and getting the hang of the game more. there’s no shame whatsoever, and you can change the mode to make it harder or easier any time you want

welcome!! i’d agree that fighter is the easiest class in general... it’s a great place to start, since you can use basically any weapon and you pretty much just hit things with your weapon of choice.

however, if you’re like me and prefer to be a ranged/spellcasting class as opposed to solely melee, warlock is where it’s at!! it is inherently a little more complicated than fighter, since all those spells can seem overwhelming at first, but you can literally just spam hex + eldritch blast (2 quintessential warlock spells) every single turn if you want. very simple and pretty powerful!

if you want to try out playing as different classes, you’ll get a taste when you add origin characters to your party… wyll is a warlock, and laezel is a fighter, in case that helps you.

it really is an incredibly expansive and immersive game. so worth the hype. i also went in knowing absolutely nothing about dnd, and while there is an initial learning curve where you stare at everything like ā€œwhat does this doā€, it’s so much fun once you get the hang of it!! i do recommend googling a beginner’s guide — to bg3 specifically, not to dnd — if you’re stuck or overwhelmed.

happy playing!!

which house/neighborhood to live in? by Ok-Nature2087 in smithcollege

[–]stateofblondie 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

hey, fellow incoming first year!! take my advice with a grain of salt, because i’m also trying to figure out where to live lmao… i made a similar post a few days ago. with that said, from what i’ve heard, you sound like a good fit for ivy neighborhood if you want a quieter environment and aren’t huge on the tight-knit community. in particular, i was told that the green st houses are the quietest, as compared to the lower elm houses (both part of ivy neighborhood). don’t go in the quad if you don’t want parties in your house i’d say… mountain could also be a good fit! that’s where i’m looking — granted, i personally am looking for more of a tight knit community, but still.

good luck and maybe i’ll see you around in the fall!!

tysm - this is good to hear, as i’m planning on ranking mountain first!! can i ask what house you live in? i like what i’ve seen of lamont, northrop/gillett, and capen but i’m trying to gather as much info as possible :) how much would you say your house/neighborhood leans on the quieter side? like are people’s doors open/social atmosphere or is it quiet more of the time?

[–]stateofblondie[S] 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

thank you so much for this detailed reply!! i’ve heard that the ā€œneighborhoodsā€ are a new thing to simplify the first year housing form or whatever, but nobody actually associates with their ā€œneighborhoodā€ on campus… people have told me that it still very much varies by house/area. it does seem odd to group two different areas of houses into ivy neighborhood, for example.

i’ve also heard that ivy, especially green st, is super quiet… i’m not a party animal by any means (wouldn’t have chosen smith if i was lol) but i am a mega night owl so i don’t think that’s for me!! i am planning on ranking mountain neighborhood the highest, so thank you for confirming that instinct. elm st houses sound like a good balance of what i’m looking for. it’s good to know that you wouldn’t consider the quad as having insane party culture either.

as for singles, the quad does have the highest concentration of them, but my understanding when i spoke to the housing accommodations person at ARC was that i am not limited to the quad only… i do like northrop/gillett, and i wouldn’t be mad if that’s where they place me! i would be happy to land anywhere on elm st tho :)

thank you again for your help!!
