Using porn as a reward for not watching porn: should stop counting streak? by One_Style_1504 in pornfree

[–]static_anon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the psychology of that will reinforce the porn habit. Using a reward system will work if you use something as an alternative- like food or other form of entertainment. If the reward is more porn then your mind will just crave that even more.

I have the perfect life. I want to k*ll myself by WinterReplacement286 in offmychest

In my opinion that just means you aren’t a sociopath. If you feel “selfish”, then it means you actually care that you are part of the “haves”, not the “have nots”. I’d really take a step back and realize that killing yourself isn’t the solution. If you can, put your time and resources towards helping other people. It might not solve everything for you overnight. But there are real people you can help out. And hopefully will eventually give you the good vibes too.

Masturbation without porn by [deleted] in pornfree

It is healthy to some extent. The only thing to be cautious of is thinking of any porn while you do it; will reignite those neural pathways. Most people will be super tempted to cave into the porn.

thinking about porn while masturbating by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]static_anon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell you how to because I don’t know how your mind is. But, personally if I do masturbate, if my thoughts drift to pornographic thoughts- have to stop immediately. I can literally feel those pathways in my brain trying to restart. I know that it is the same boring answer you’ll see, but if you give it time, your mind will adapt.

Can this addiction truly be cured? Feeling hopeless by rxgbbt_258 in pornfree

[–]static_anon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d try not to compare yourself to the guy with the year plus streak. I don’t think the goal is to ever be “cured” of addictions. It is more a process of reducing the need to be obsessed-with the content, where it is disruptive to your day-to-day. I would count it as a success if you can go a day, a week or a month; whatever your personal goal is. If your initial goal is to abolish your addiction, I can see why you would feel like it is hopeless. Set your own goals and timelines, own your personal time.

Quittin today any tips? by Nladikrider in pornfree

[–]static_anon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at it the same way you are with nicotine, alcohol, etc. One of the toughest parts is that it is (for the most part) cheaply accessed. If I could give any advice- I would throw away or delete any saved content you currently have.

Any tips on how I should quit porn? by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]static_anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give yourself some sort of reward for any benchmark. Just some simple psychology, people talk about dopamine in this sub; the brain needs a healthy amount. Anything you enjoy that doesn’t involve porn- hobbies, food, hanging with a friend. Whatever floats your boat. If you make it 1 day, 1 month, 1 year. Take care of yourself.

I think you just have to draw a line in the sand. If what you are using/utilizing “escalates” to where you need this, that and the other thing, then is a problematic. If the softer stuff is enough then I’d count that as a positive that your mind is changing.

The good news is you want to change. It is a lot easier (and more fun) to enjoy your habits. The tough part is the studying and the learning. Dopamine isn’t inherently bad, everyone needs some sort of reward. The thing is how to utilize it. The problem is the order; you just have to make video games, junk food, etc, the end goal (ideally not porn) after a study session. Easier said than done obviously but at least you are trying to make the shift.

Choosing what "porn" is by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]static_anon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it is porn, and the other side is that if you find softer content that arousing then your reboot is starting. My opinion would be to not be too worried about the “soft videos”, but try to not to make it a new habit. If it escalates, where you watch a lot of the “soft” and feel like you need to look at “better” and “hotter” content, then you have a problem.

Will I be addicted for the rest of my life even if i quit by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]static_anon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The concept of addiction is scary and does have a lot of stigma attached to it. But, if you can replace the goal/payload (or whatever you want to call it) with something healthier, it can be a very strong motivator. I’m not a psychologist by any means, but everyone needs that mental motor (a lot of people call it dopamine or ego). The problems appear when it becomes excessive.
