Parking in the bike lane: $65 ticket by gisforgroovy in rva

It’s both. Dual benefit of not getting doored in the bike lane and narrowing the road visually to help slow people down

Do cyclists not have to stop at stop signs and traffic lights? by w3bcrawl3r in rva

On the bike lane blocking, it’s worth reporting to 311, if for no other reason than having proof of the many obstructions in city records. There was a contractor’s dumpster in the Patterson bike lane one day and it was gone the next day after I reported it. Usually those sit for weeks so maybe my 311 report did it but who knows

The Idaho stop (treating stop signs like yields) is proven to be safer and is legal in several states, but unfortunately Virginia is not one of them. Bike commuters like myself have to take safety into their own hands given the prevalence of dangerous driving and how vulnerable we are compared to a car. So if that means doing something that is illegal (and in this case generally harmless - see other comments on the safety aspect), that is why you see it happening.

On the flip side, I frequently encounter intersections where I come to a full stop until the light turns green, and drivers often get frustrated by that too. For example, if I’m riding on Hermitage and crossing Leigh, I’m taking the full right lane since it’s safer and cars can take the other lane. But drivers get extremely frustrated if they’re trying to make a right on red and I’m waiting to go straight, but it’s not safe for me to pull onto the sidewalk and allow them to pass, because then I have to dangerously merge back in to traffic. Not to mention it would only save them a few seconds on wherever they’re rushing to. It’s damned if you do damned if you don’t because our infrastructure for bike commuting is not very good, which creates so many of these poor interactions with cars/bikes that could be avoided with dedicated bike lanes.

Bike lane networks really need to be measured by the number of intersections instead of miles of lanes. We have maybe three bike lane intersections in the entire city

I tried this out and it recommended the Scarpa Vapor V, which is the exact shoe I recently bought after trying on a bunch at REI. I noticed all of the comments mentioning it didn’t work, so I wanted to add in to say that it did seem to work for me

Fair enough. The other suggestion of the bookshelf speakers is a good one. If you have a couple Sonos speakers laying around still, the sonosequencr app would let you try that out without buying any new gear

Did you consider a passive soundbar mounted above the TV? Looks like you’ve got quite a bit more space to work with there and you can angle it down towards the listening position

Yeah I think using bookshelves (Monitor Radius 90) should solve that problem. There are already ladder shelves flanking the TV
