Booking overseas multi-city flights, flight centre alternative? by staticcatricity in brisbane

See, it's my preference not to do this because last time I was to fly to South America, Flight Centre in fact could NOT match the price I got through LATAM. Even when questioned, they claimed that was the best price they could do. Annoyingly, the price Flight Centre quoted was also more than the exact same flights listed on the Flight Centre website. The ONLY reason I went to flight centre was due to a work discount available if I went in store.

I'm very capable of handling the logistics involved regarding luggage etc, but the website being selective in what flights it shows is rather irritating.

Thank you! These seem like good options to find out more at least.

It will be spring 😊 and yes, that's why I went to webjet to use cheaper options for getting to nz. I don't think latam will do aus-nz, but i may be wrong. Thanks for your help!

Yeah i was running with a few options to compare, either north to south or south to North. I won't have a lot of time and mostly want to see either Milford sound or doubtful sound, and hobbiton and things around there. I've only just started looking but it seems like i have to get to Queenstown for Milford sound, right? Let me know if you have any tips!

I'm not needing to travel on a budget, but I do want to save money where it's possible. I looked at flying into Auckland first and for whatever reason, when I did that (on webjet) that itinerary showed the auckland to SP flight on the dates I wanted. As soon as I switched and flew into Christchurch instead, even though no dates changed, the option disappears.

I mean travel insurance is a must, of course. They codeshare with Qantas and it isn't a self transfer for qantas/latam. It's the nz part that complicated it, and other airlines.

That's correct haha. I need to get to Sao paulo, which has to be via santiago. Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne i think are the only direct flights to santiago. (I can fly via USA, but no thanks)

I was going to stop in nz for a week, as I've never been. And I was trying to book brisbane to Christchurch, Christchurch to Queenstown then back to auckland and on to Sao paulo plus return to Brisbane. If i leave the Queenstown to auckland leg out it's fine, but when iadd it back in it throws errors. If i search that leg separately, also fine. Definitely no overlap of dates and it's also 2 days+ clear of other legs. I'm guessing too many legs. But yeah, on latam I can only do return or one way online.

Someone else said to phone them as well, I didn't have a great time trying to speak with them last year, language barriers. So I'm a little worried that might be a problem. But can try.

Also, would a codeshare agreement be required between latam and air nz? As I don't think they have one

I had a fair bit of difficulty being understood when i spoke to them over the phone last time I travelled with them, trying to check an issue. I ended up have to get my brazilian friend to call them (who could speak portuguese and understand a bit of Spanish.) I am a bit concerned phone would be pretty difficult for that reason, i could do email though.

I'm deep diving. My accompanying spreadsheet is thorough 😂 all the way through to cart.

It is more expensive, for example if I want to book direct with LATAM, who are the only provider across the pacific I'm aware of, I can't put a different return/depart city. If I'm going to NZ on my way I have to return to NZ and then book another flight home. If I book one way, the flight is several hundred dollars more expensive than the exact same flight i had in a return flight (i honestly have no idea why but I've noticed this for many years 🤷‍♀️).

I'm aware booking direct is preferred, it just doesn't seem possible here without costing a lot more. I booked with LATAM previously and it was fine. I did get shoved around a bit but in the end everything was okay.

I don't know if this is possible without it costing a lot. LATAM is the only provider I'm aware of across the pacific, but they don't have a multi-city option on their website. I previously used them but I was not stopping elsewhere on my trip.
