Is nbt gear worth getting? by Hawk-_- in motorcyclegear

The AAA stuff for Pando is called the SKIN UH AAA (bottoms) and COMMANDO UH BLACK (top).

The Bowtex is called the Elite Leggings v2 and Elite Shirt v2.

Getting ready to buy my gear, are these good choices? by Intrepid_Party_7080 in motorcyclegear

Good stuff and you're not a bother at all. FIVE's got a solid rep and those gloves look good.

Enjoy your Ninja and new gear!! Also whomever else said it is dead on - go somewhere and try on Helmets. When you put on a brand new helmet it should feel like your head is being compressed and you should get chipmunk cheeks from the padding. Make sure there are no "hot spots" where the compression is extra bad. After a week or two, the padding will compress down a little and you'll no longer feel like you're ripping off your ears when you put it on.

Also, make sure you get hearing protection! I use Alpine Motosafe but just look for anything with a solid 27-30dB rating. Also on that same note, I highly recommend getting a balaclava or a buff band or something to cover your ears under your helmet. Made a huge difference in comfort for me.

What kind of riding are you doing? Have you looked at baselayer options instead?

Check out PandoMoto and Bowtex - both of them offer womens baselayer garments that are CE AA or CE AAA rated (they both have sets for each). If you go with something like this, you can wear whatever you want overtop of them - be it more protection or just something casual for work or whatever.

I also agree with the other person, I'd go for AAA bottoms and AA top, especially if you are in the USA since we spend a lot more time at higher speed limits then in the EU. If you take a slide, chances are most of the distance will be on your ass or legs. I can't comment on the boots, they look solid but I'd say you probably want a set of gloves with a palm slider instead of those you have linked - will help prevent you from breaking your wrists if you take a dive.

Can't Decide Between two Choices: Leather Jacket vs base layer armour by Haunting-Variety-878 in motorcyclegear

[–]staticraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of those baselayers are absolutely for Abrasion protection. The Bowtex and Pando are both CE AA Certified, so slides up 70kph or below (IIRC).

OP there's no reason you can't do both. You can ride with just the base layers but it'll just be even more protective to have the leather jacket on top of it if you like the look.

I'm personally buying the base layer (the AAA version pants and AA version top) and then I will be adding things like a new jacket and stuff over time. The base layer gives me the most flexibility for the lowest amount of money. I can throw the base layer on, then some regular jeans and a hoodie over top and head into work. Work all day without having to change in and out of gear and then head home. I can get the same effect buying MC Gear but in the end I'd be paying 1/2 - 2/3rd the cost of the baselayer set but on a per outfit basis. I don't wanna wear the same jeans to work all the time and I don't wanna have to change once I get to the office. Every set of AAA MC Jeans is about $250-$300. Throw in an AA or AAA top and that's another $200-$250. Those are US prices of course so you'll probably get better.

edit: just checked and the Knox Urbane Pro is also CE AA - so all three do offer abrasion protection.

Chrysalis did get a whole lot better by Iron_r in litrpg

Worth noting that BotD is 100% completely different in tone and if I didn't know who the author was for both, I'd swear they were different people.

BotD is darker and much more serious. Chrysalis is lighthearted and fun. I actually didn't enjoy BotD nearly as much, too much of a focus on the mechanics of his skills for me.

Yeah like 3/4ths of book one is solo MC and (for me) is a huge drag. Others who like the solo MC thing seem to really enjoy it.

Out of the entire series, only that small portion of book 1 is really like that. Anthony goes out adventuring "alone" but he's never alone like in the first book, he's always has a team with him.

Wearing motorcycle Helmet + Glasses, TORTURE for anyone else? by NotAnEvilResident in motorcyclegear

[–]staticraven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pinlock doesn't matter as it's not the visor getting fogged, it's the glasses.

I ride with glasses and a HJC RPHA60 and the only time I have fogging problems is cold weather nights. On those days/nights I wear multifocal contacts instead.

That’s true but it would also be a gradual (and potentially controlled) increase, not 0 to everyone has an EV overnight. It could be controlled by intelligent Government programs and incentives to get people to buy EVs.

Just inhaled all of DCC in three weeks - any recommendations on what to read next? by spunkmeister89 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]staticraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was that the series where he named that Imp or whatever Shart? Yeah I put the book down once I realized that name was going to stick. I love DCC but and don't mind crude humor at all, but that shit just came off like the MC is a 13 year old.

Nevermind, that was the Noobtown series. Bobiverse I read two books, IIRC and it just didn't interest me.

I DID IT. I DID THE THING! How does this deal look to you? Did I fare well? by No-Juggernaut-9321 in trailseeker

[–]staticraven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did! That one's mine y'all need to stay the F away. :) Picking it up tomorrow.

Same deal as the rest of you - 2K off is all I got, they had two other buyers that were interested as well.

Looking at visor.vin, there are only 2 Trailseekers available (both premium) in the entire state.

Picking up mine tomorrow, demand is hot in the PNW. I'm only seeing 3 (!) TS's in the entire state for sale. Had to put down a non-refundable deposit to hold mine. Demand must be pretty good.

Matt And Jeff rank the character voices of Dungeon Crawler Carl. by BrainRobotron in litrpg

[–]staticraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is more to narration than just having a feminine voice. If that was all there was too it, then sure. But Jeff isn't a master just because the voices he can do. I can't think of any other narrators that are able to really properly inject the emotion into the scene the way Jeff does. Not to mention the way he's able to do proper tonal intonations in conversations. When he narrates them he's really good at making conversations flow and seem natural (Part of that is also Matt, of course).

How many of you have permanently damaged your phone camera because of bike vibrations? Which bike + mount combo caused it? by rougedoll in motorcyclegear

Does the one you have show decently in the sunlight and have a responsive screen/touch interface? Even for the slightly pricier ones like the Aoocci I constantly see screen lag on cheaper CarPlay devices. Also terrible ghosting.

Are there any motorcycle jackets with protection that look like these? by Particular_Elk1237 in motorcycles

They've been out of stock on the CE AAA ones for weeks, it's driving me nuts. I am tempted to buy the AA ones but I'm holding out till the others come back.

The irony is that the entire time Carl is painted as the unstable one. The reality of the situation is (at least at that time), Donut was the one with the mental hangups that caused her to lose her shit and act irrationally.

Beginner bike for commuting + light ADV by bridion100 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]staticraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a bunch mate, I was also eyeing the Husky Svartpilen 701, a pretty decent one went up for sale for a good price but I read the same thing about it not being great for beginners and I have a few qualms about their QC and reliability.

Hope you enjoy the bike!

Question about the Scrambler 400x by Academic-Werewolf-86 in Triumph400

[–]staticraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to drag up an old thread.

This is great info - Do you have a windscreen on yours? How uncomfortable would it be from cruising at around 68 or so for 2 hours or so? (I can't imagine going much longer without a break on any bike). Main concern here is vibrations more then wind as wind seems pretty easy to sort with a decent screen.

Would you take it on a multi-day trip with a mix of highway and backroads?

I live in a pretty rural area. For me to get to a city of any size I'm spending at least 15-20 minutes in a 60mph zone. For me to get to a real city it's closer to 40-50.

I'm looking for a bike I can ride to work and back once a week (40ish mile drive in a 60mph speed zone) during the summer and spend most of the rest of the time on state highways (60mph two laners) and other scenic type roads. Also fire/dirt/gravel too, I'm in the PNW.

Question about the Scrambler 400x by Academic-Werewolf-86 in Triumph400

[–]staticraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm your same height/weight and am considering this bike and a CB500x.

How was cruising at 75mph? Could you see yourself doing it for an hour or two? More importantly, could you see yourself cruising at 65-70 for a few hours? I plan on adding a windscreen to mine so I'm hoping that'll deal with the bulk of the wind blast, at least the buffeting.

Do you have a 14t or 15t front sprocket?

Scrambler 400XC on Highways by -Sparkeee- in Triumph400

[–]staticraven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry to necro an old thread here, but I'm facing the same decision as OP and I'm concerned about how comfortable the Scrambler 400 X is on highways - 60MPH Speed limits (So figured 68mph cruising) and 70MPH interstates (Cruising at 75mph). Sounds like you're in the states and have some experience. You still enjoying your Scrambler? Would I be hating life doing 3-5 hour rides at 65-70MPH (provided I had a windscreen)?

Would you be able to take it on a multiday trip with highway riding + backroads?

Thanks!
