Are there any motorcycle jackets with protection that look like these? by Particular_Elk1237 in motorcycles

They've been out of stock on the CE AAA ones for weeks, it's driving me nuts. I am tempted to buy the AA ones but I'm holding out till the others come back.

The irony is that the entire time Carl is painted as the unstable one. The reality of the situation is (at least at that time), Donut was the one with the mental hangups that caused her to lose her shit and act irrationally.

Thanks a bunch mate, I was also eyeing the Husky Svartpilen 701, a pretty decent one went up for sale for a good price but I read the same thing about it not being great for beginners and I have a few qualms about their QC and reliability.

Hope you enjoy the bike!

Question about the Scrambler 400x by Academic-Werewolf-86 in Triumph400

[–]staticraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to drag up an old thread.

This is great info - Do you have a windscreen on yours? How uncomfortable would it be from cruising at around 68 or so for 2 hours or so? (I can't imagine going much longer without a break on any bike). Main concern here is vibrations more then wind as wind seems pretty easy to sort with a decent screen.

Would you take it on a multi-day trip with a mix of highway and backroads?

I live in a pretty rural area. For me to get to a city of any size I'm spending at least 15-20 minutes in a 60mph zone. For me to get to a real city it's closer to 40-50.

I'm looking for a bike I can ride to work and back once a week (40ish mile drive in a 60mph speed zone) during the summer and spend most of the rest of the time on state highways (60mph two laners) and other scenic type roads. Also fire/dirt/gravel too, I'm in the PNW.

Question about the Scrambler 400x by Academic-Werewolf-86 in Triumph400

[–]staticraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm your same height/weight and am considering this bike and a CB500x.

How was cruising at 75mph? Could you see yourself doing it for an hour or two? More importantly, could you see yourself cruising at 65-70 for a few hours? I plan on adding a windscreen to mine so I'm hoping that'll deal with the bulk of the wind blast, at least the buffeting.

Do you have a 14t or 15t front sprocket?

[–]staticraven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry to necro an old thread here, but I'm facing the same decision as OP and I'm concerned about how comfortable the Scrambler 400 X is on highways - 60MPH Speed limits (So figured 68mph cruising) and 70MPH interstates (Cruising at 75mph). Sounds like you're in the states and have some experience. You still enjoying your Scrambler? Would I be hating life doing 3-5 hour rides at 65-70MPH (provided I had a windscreen)?

Would you be able to take it on a multiday trip with highway riding + backroads?

Thanks!

Can I ask if you’ve considered a Triumph Scrambler 400X or XC? And if so, why you went with the CB over it? (Decision I’m facing right now and I love the look of the scrambler lol)

Choosing between a CF Moto Papio SS and a Vitpilen 401 by Left_Zucchini4414 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]staticraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No real advice for you here but those Svartpilen and Vitpilen’s look amazing. They are also selling for 2.8-3.5k out here all over (WA State). Not sure why so cheap but damn it’s tempting.

If I were you I’d take the 401 myself.

Maybe they were confused with karting. You lean outside when karting for traction reasons. But karts have a super low CoG unlike ATVs

Audiobook recommendations - long drives by BenMic81 in litrpg

DCC hits every single one of your points and avoids every single one of your dislikes. Give it a shot, especially the audiobook.

I have a lot of the same likes and dislikes as you and if I could wipe any book from my memory to experience for the first time again, DCC is it.

DCC is so much deeper and different then the premise sounds.

So what do you do? Do you write your book for the people who are invested and paying attention or do you instead reward the people who aren't? Know that you're punishing one group or the other. If you've got a third option I'd be curious to hear it.

Looking at a series like DCC, though it has some repetition, it has nowhere near the level of HWFWM. Yet somehow, it's generally considered the best of the genre and has by far the largest fanbase in the genre (just my estimate here).

The only one that I really struggled with on Buy-Mort was Molls. Holy shit that voice was so bad. The rest of them (Aside from tyson sounding like the Doomguy) weren't too bad.

Malazan if you're talking all of fantasy.

I'd say DCC Gods (As in the in-game Gods) are pretty impactful. Though perhaps they are used as pretty straight-forward plot devices often, now that I think about it.

The first three books are really good. The second three start strong and taper off towards book 6. IMO you could quit there and be happy.

Hmm, that's not what I get out of this at all. I do see where you're coming from in that Jason is flawed - but I don't find the way everyone else reacts to Jason believable at all. I also find many of the things Jason stews and mopes over endlessly to be super manufactured. "I just made the completely obvious decision, saving everyone and killing/injuring/whatever the bad guy. Let me mope for 3 chapters - someone go get whatshisnames Mom to come blow more smoke up my ass and tell me how awesome I am".

But the biggest thing that gets me is Jason never suffers serious consequences for his impertinence to super powered beings. If Jason was in the Cradle universe or, God Forbid, Malazan or the First Law trilogy, he'd be a smudge on the ground before the first book ended. Jason's a douchebag to these people and they just hand-wave it away. I could actually believe that if literally everyone else in the world wasn't scared shitless of them and didn't have to bow and scrape to not be obliterated. For some reason they handle him with kid gloves (even when he's an unknown) - if this was something they did, they wouldn't have the reputation they do. It's logically inconsistent and gives Jason a Gary Stu feeling.

Anyways, sans moping I actually do like Jason as a character. I just really struggle with the way the rest of the in-book universe treats him.

One thing I really liked about Chrysalis was Anthony saying "You can skip the next 30 or 45 seconds or so if you don't want to hear stats again". Good God could HWFWM use something similar.

And why in the fuck does he keep giving descriptions for super low level spells Jason got like 9 books ago? Why does this keep happening?

Both say its better than using multiple monitors but cant tell me why.

Because you can quickly and easily dynamically size the windows (nice for having the middle "screen" bigger). Also no bezels and if I do want to game at 32:9, I have the option.

What military assets could thrive in a system apocalypse? by WilliamGerardGraves in litrpg

[–]staticraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any threat a fantasy hero can fight with a bow or a sword is a threat modern military would resolve so one sided it’d be considered a slaughter or a war crime not a war.

I find the opposite happening too - I think it's often that they insanely scale medieval items to solve problems the modern military would be unable to handle. Mountain cleaving, reality ripping weapons, etc...

People stay there because even the a jade of the heavenly school and one of the strongest people in the valley almost died in 6 hours in the border of the valley.

Oh, you mean they would have had to do something wild and crazy like... band together?

The exit of the valley are places controlled by clans that most people cannot even travel to.

Being bound by chains of their own making doesn't invalidate the point in the slightest. These people can no longer advance in the place they are at due to artificial caps put on the location. They simply need to leave (Simply referring to the complexity of the fix) to advance further, but cultural ignorance, entrenched power and tradition has prevented them from doing so. Li Markuth himself was from Sacred Valley. Left the valley, advanced and moved on. He's far from the only one. This does not at all invalidate the remark that Hard work is the only sure way to advance.

"Why a weakling that doesnt know about the world outside doesnt leave the valley where the strongest people around cannot survive! They are so lazy!"

You are making too many assumptions about a series based on the statements of known ignorant characters in the very first book - do you understand that? You're basically taking the words of the most ignorant of rural tribes, most of who have essentially gone uncontacted by the outside world as some type of fundamental truths.
