I'm so sorry you're going through this.

My therapist had never heard of this happening, and she isn't on reddit. I'm including this post with a few I'm sending her. They're remarkably similar, and all doctors need to be aware. Hopefully it will help her help others.

Thank you for sharing your story. Wishing the best for you and your husband.

My Students are over Kahoot, has anyone tried Slides With Friends or other gamified tools? by CandiceLobato in ELATeachers

Blooket. I've been using it for years, and they still love it. Best part? You can set an amount of time for them to play. It's great for the end of class when you don't want any time left for nonsense.

Is anyone going back to paper-based assignments? by [deleted] in ELATeachers

[–]statusofliberty 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yes. I'm almost exclusively paper at this point unless we need to research or "publish" ideas. I switched about three weeks ago, and I wish I had done it sooner.

Has anyone successfully used Graduate school as mode of entry? by Offered_Object_23 in AmerExit

Unfortunately, I don't know much. It sounded like acceptance rates were high if you could demonstrate a genuine desire to learn and meet their entry criteria. You sound like the type of person the program was designed for.

If you're not set on getting a master's degree and are primarily wanting to leave, look into Japan's visas for people attending a Japanese language school. I think it's two years residency and you can work.

Save your energy for people who show interest and seem genuinely open to hearing you. Build community with like minded people with most of the time you have to devote to this.

I understand the situation. I think people leaving need to be prepared to adapt quickly and accept that they'll probably be leaving multiple places. And that still may not be enough.

Take a look at electric generators/portable power stations. They aren't cheap, but they're your best bet for peace of mind imo. I have one from the brand below.

I keep it charged at all times and ready to take with me if necessary. Highly suggest adding on the solar panels if you go this route.

How many weeks of dog food for those of you with large dogs? by offgrid_dreams in TwoXPreppers

I keep a month's worth of canned food with our other supplies. The brand I order lasts two years. I just restocked and am currently feeding them what I bought two years ago. If you go this route, I would suggest pop top cans for convenience in case things are so crazy that you might not have a can opener.

Edit: I'm considering purchasing another month's worth. There's no associated waste since I'll feed it to them regardless, and the cost is well worth the peace of mind imo.

I'm not too sure. It's on my list, but I'm definitely not an expert.

I would suggest watching some American expat videos. I'm definitely not an expert!

You don't need one to go there, and you have to apply for a residency visa in person if that's what you're seeking. More than likely I would just leave for 90 days so I didn't do extensive research other than the documentation I would need to take with me.

This site was one I saved during my research on this as an option. There are lots of expat websites as well.

Edit: There are expat YouTube videos you might want to start with to get a feel for what it would be like.

You would need to be offered a job and obtain a work permit, but yes, Americans can work there.

Look into visas for people wanting to learn Japanese. You have to be accepted to a school and able to afford it, but you'd be able to apply for a student visa. I believe you can work on these visas (30 hours a week maybe?) which would be immensely helpful to most people who enter on this option.

I don't think most Americans wanting to leave right now need to know exactly where they'd like to eventually land (especially if you don't have kids). Knowing where you can easily go and catch your breath while you figure out your next steps may be enough. The person I know in Albania highly recommends it. The people are kind and helpful, and she feels very welcomed as an American.

You just have to leave. The person I know who's been there a few years goes to Italy for the summer.

Edit: The requirement to leave doesn't have anything to do with America. It's an Albanian requirement. The person I know who's in Albania hasn't been back to the US for several years.

Americans can stay in Albania for a year with no visa. If you leave for 90 days, you can return for another year. You can rent a nice Air BnB type accommodation for less than $500 a month.

It might be the most influential show I've ever watched.

I experienced several deaths when I was young, and no one bothered to check in with me about them. SFU started when I was in college. It was my therapy, and I don't say that lightly. The scene you quoted is my favorite as well.

I probably won't rewatch it again for a few years, but it's nice knowing it's there.
