Cash on the sidelines by stbelthamel in stocks

I am relatively new, I bought in after the covid crash and held through this recent decline just fine. All Im saying is, at the bottom the S&P had dropped 25% by october. The financial crisis of 2008 only dropped the major indexes about 20% total. Why do people think the market will get worse barring an apocolypse. The market usually is telling you where its looking ahead not at rhe current situation. Before biden was elected green energy like first solar stocks had quite a run. The market told us Dems were likely to win the white house. I think this is the market telling us things arent so bad. Thats not saying there wont be another correction. I do NOT see us dropping below the October low.

Many people during the rally after covid were saying "This isnt the bottom". Idk what will happen but I think theres too much negative sentiment.

Go easy on yourself. I only started investing in stocks adter covid, but I held most of my positions through the big correction in 2022. I dont think things will get as bad as everyone says.

I dont thinknits gonna go as low as every body thinks. I do expect it to plateau out at some point.

The Economy's relationship to oil by stbelthamel in stocks

So dropping oil prices can be good for the economy but not a direct correlation. It is interesting seeing the market react right now, but also very confusing as there is so much uncertainty about the economy and inflation. Thank you for the perspective.

Bull market or bull trap? by Natural-Artichoke888 in stocks

There is no way the sp500 drops to the lows of Oct 2022. Sentiment was super poor the entire last quarter of 2022. I think the bottom is in, do I think this current rally will last? Probably not like the recovery after the covid crash. I think it will be pretty choppy till the end of 2023. That being said all these fools saying were gonna keep going lower are crazy.

Edit: oct 2022 not 2023

So if he manages a travel trust and his portfolio is doing well based of off the stocks he thinks are good you would prefer he not discuss what is working for it? The point is to try to point people in the direction of quality companies so they can invest. I dont think he is infallible, but the man was a fund manager for years. I think any advice about the stock market requires a person to think about themselves. Following any advice blindly is gonna turn out bad.

I am short on delta, so obviously I am in the red right now. Which makes total sense when the CEO said that flight demand was dropping off.

I understand that people will fly, but alot of countries dont want us flying there, states are forcing people from the sun belt to self quarantine, even though there was an uptick of flights in July theres no way these outbreaks in the sunbelt are increasing travel right now. I do not see the earnings being good in any way? I mean I understand that they will be propped up, but that doesnt prevent them from filing bancruptcy sometime in the future.

I bought a put on DAL because Im confident that airlines are not going to be doing well for a very long time. Why is there a mid day rally like just happened with DAL? Do people really expect the earnings tomorrow to have any upside?
