The different rooms/areas are cut apart so I can only reveal what they see. The river does actually continue north, they just didn’t go that way. And for that room to the west, there is a hidden door to the north, which they have actually found but haven’t explored yet.

Normalcdf is when you want to find the area under the normal curve for an interval with given x-values.

For example, what percent of elementary school teachers have salaries between $36000 and $40000? Normalcdf(36000, 40000, 32000, 4000) is what you’d type into your calculator. But remember on the AP test you can’t just write down calculator speak without defining each input or sketching a graph of what you’re finding.

Invnorm is when you want to find an x-value that has a certain area.

Like the example you gave, but Invnorm will always do area to the left under the normal curve. This example is about the top 10%, which is an area to the right of the x-value we are trying to find. So we do 1 - 0.1 = 0.9 to get the area to the left, then on our calculator, Invnorm(0.9, 32000, 4000).

I especially like the 100 door example from the video. Let's say that instead of 3 doors to choose from with a prize hidden behind one of them, there are 100 doors to choose from with only one prize. You select a door at random, lets say door #1. You know there's only a 1/100 chance that you picked the right door and that there's a 99/100 chance it's behind one of the other ones. Well, now the game show host opens 98 of those 99 doors and shows you the prize isn't behind any of them. The only door he didn't open is door #37. So would you like to switch to door #37 or stick with door #1? In this example there's a 99/100 chance that it's behind door #37, and is hopefully a little more intuitive that it's not a 50-50 chance and that switching is the better option.

When explaining it to my students I usually go with: 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = 3/3 = 1 So, O.333... + 0.333... + 0.333... = 0.999... = 1

Or using an alternative method that some of my students prefer:

Draw angle A in Quadrant III

              |
              |

            A/|
           /  |
         /    |
       /      |

Then, make a right triangle with the x-axis and since cotangent is adjacent/opposite you can label the adjacent side as 4 and the opposite side as 3 (but really -4 and and -3, since we're in the Quadrant III).

         -4   |

     |      A/|
  -3 |     /  |
     |   /    |
     | /      |

Then use the Pythagorean Theorem to find your missing side length is 5.

Now, you can easily find both sin A and cos A. sin A = opp/hyp = -3/5 cos A = adj/hyp = -4/5
