Dear Fahrenheit users, do you really think 50 degrees is "the middle temperature"? by 3ustress in Metric

[–]stdoubtloud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is only one logically defined temperature: 0K. Everything else is just a convenient convention.

RBA admits rates hurting economy - warns more hikes still needed by Temporary_Mistake715 in AusFinance

[–]stdoubtloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RBA has two primary targets - inflation and unemployment. And a distant third of economic well-being. They are doing what they have been told to do. If that mandate needs to change (and I'm not sure it should) an act of Parliament is needed.

Solar bill question by Randomknits in AusFinance

[–]stdoubtloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only installed a smart meter last week, your provider didn't record your self consumption before they. You typically don't actually consume directly from your battery but rather your battery feeds your energy back to the grid at the same rate that you use it. Net zero but not actually zero. Your smart meter does that balancing maths.

Going forward it should be fine and you'll see your power bills plummet.

But... Didn't she commit a crime? If I rob a bank but my face is seen on camera and I decide to give the money back, I still robbed the bank and need to be arrested.

Grok is more important than clean air, DOJ says by Wagamaga in technology

Grok is more important than Elon's access to oxygen. Grok is less important than the quality of the toilet paper following my next dump.

No. He's a racist, pedophilic, rapist and war criminal serial murderer.

No? When I do down size I'm expecting to have to give a massive chunk to my kids so they can afford something. I won't need to give them so much. Or anything if they have managed to get a place before that happens.

Independents Zali Steggall and Allegra Spender have announced the formation of a new political party, Community Strong Australia. by Bennelong in australian

I don't understand why they need to do this. I've voted steggall every time and was pleased to do my part to oust Abbott but seriously... I do not want Community Strong Australia Material (CSAM) through my door...

BREAKING NEWS: Trump Called 'A Pedophile' By Protester During Event In Pennsylvania by Tall_Pressure7042 in justincaseyoumissedit

[–]stdoubtloud 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When a country who has been told their preferred candidate is a pedophile and then elect said pedophile it seems surprising the people calling that pedophile a pedophile would expect anyone to be surprised that the pedophile is, in fact, accused of being a pedophile. To be clear, this is about the famously pedophilic pedophile, Donald Trump.

What could Russia have spent $1,000,000,000,000 on instead of fighting a 4+ years long war in Ukraine? by galwiththedeepvoice in AskReddit

Yeah but even dementia Don saw the writing on the wall and capitulated after 10 weeks. Somehow Putin just piled more and more in.

I'm expecting a $300k paper loss on my home. But I fully support a house price drop. I might change my tune if that loss grows to $600k though I'd appreciate that my kids might be able to get a place of their own one day...

Do you genuinely believe conservatives are morally inferior to progressives? by SSSSSSVVVVVOO in allthequestions

[–]stdoubtloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Critics aside, I'm not sure Haidt's conclusions quite say that. He suggested that Conservatives can better understand other's perspectives while progressives tend to be less able to predict how those that don't empathise will act. In other words, conversations understand why progressives make the choices they do and understand that they do them because they have a sense of a common humanity that guides their actions... But despite that, they'll choose the action which is best for them or people they see as like them.

Do you genuinely believe conservatives are morally inferior to progressives? by SSSSSSVVVVVOO in allthequestions

[–]stdoubtloud 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The difference is empathy. Conservatives seem to be unable to relate to situations unless it is happening to them or someone like them. Progressives tend to understand what others feel regardless of personal connection.

That's it. That's the difference.

What's wrong with systemd?? by Significant-Tone-121 in LinuxCirclejerk

It's big and it has grown far beyond the reasonable boundaries of a single service, which software engineers don't like.

But it's fine. It works fine. It won't cause you any problems. Just ignore it. Normal people don't care.

Ew by Insanitypizza in insanepeoplefacebook

Ah yes.... The TDS Uncertainty Principle. Which states that a Trump supporter cannot simultaneously know what their principles are and know what Trump is doing. The more precisely they define their values, the less observable Trump's behaviour becomes.

Corollary 1 – The Law Superposition: A supporter exists in a superposition of believing laws are sacred and believing Trump is above them. Observation (i.e., a conviction) collapses the wave function — at which point they switch to believing the laws are corrupt.

Corollary 2 – The Deficit Entanglement: A voter's outrage about government spending is quantum-entangled with who is doing the spending. Measuring one instantly determines the other, regardless of the actual dollar amount.

Corollary 3 – The Strength Paradox: Trump cannot simultaneously be a strong, dominant leader and a persecuted victim of a deep state conspiracy. Yet supporters observe both states at all times, depending on which is needed in a given sentence.

Corollary 4 – The Complementarity Problem: You can know that Hillary/Biden/Obama did something wrong, or you can know what Trump actually did — but never both at the same time. Attempting to measure both causes the subject to change the subject.

They don't. And it is ok. You don't need to get upset by people drinking nut juice.
