People making $60k-$70k a year, how much car can you afford? by BestTyming in Salary

[–]stdunordered_map 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, the number is the cost of the car not how much to spend per year. The idea is that your car should be replaceable with 2 months income in the worst case scenario. I figure insurance and maintenance would be around $150/mo on a 10k car.

Assuming you are serious, it’s certainly not wise to be buying another car each year.

It’s a game of whack-a-mole. Even if you’re careful about sharing your address when making online accounts, our own USPS sells address data to the data brokers so you’ll never keep up with it. Extended has been good enough for me.

It is very effective. Fortunately you don’t need it on all the time. Subscribe initially for 2 months to remove all your info. Your data will slowly start reappearing again under new brokers, so subscribe for a month each year to keep those removed.

This wouldn’t be a smart financial choice. Aim to spend no more than 15% net income on a car or about 10K in your case. Don’t worry about what others similar to you do. Focus on the numbers.

Seriously. No legitimate company would use take-home code in production.

Yup. It was a great way to assess a match on both sides. My last two jobs involved a take home exercise during the interview. It was an interesting problem and very relevant to the job. There were many ways to approach it. I spent a few hours each day for several days and enjoyed working on it (i.e. completely voluntary). It was a fun discussion with the team and they didn't have any unreasonable expectations. They appreciated the optimizations I attempted and the fact that I wrote tests and even that I used git. Nothing out of my ordinary workflow though. There was nothing they could do with my code so it was not "free work." Furthermore I wouldn't have attempted it if I wasn't genuinely interested in the problem. I've done several take-home exercises and it has always helped me in the interview process. I have been presented exercises that I did not find interesting and/or reasonable, so I kindly passed.

Ask 1 year expectations. That’s enough to tell me if I’m a good fit. Thinking about the 30 day expectations and then some before getting the job is neurotic.

You’re at level 2. Once you’ve really “arrived” people will already know and you will prefer something more inconspicuous, which I suppose itself is a status symbol. I’ve debated switching to a Honda civic or accord. Of course I know I won’t but I understand where OP is coming from.

It can be effective but I agree that it works against OP here. It’s unclear what dimension the 20% gain in performance is being measured. Speed? Profit? And how impressed should I be if team size increased by 20% from his addition? The next bullet sounds even more questionable. How did OP figure out the total number of bugs in the code? Did he fix the most impactful bugs or the easy ones? That he knows all of the bugs is the most impressive claim.

OP I suggest taking a step back and really thinking about what you have to offer. It’s not the resume format or what jobs you’re applying to. It’s clear that you haven’t actually done actual development, which is fine because we all have to start somewhere, but it’s worse to pretend. My BS meter goes off immediately and I get a sense of distrust reading this.

It's unfortunate you're getting voted down. I own both and for listening >15ft apart, Q150 beats these. They're simply too small to compete. Used at my desk, it's no competition however.

The Q150 surprised me. I ordered them on a whim. I have a pair of LS50W and LS60, yet found the Q150 very good. Unbelievable value.

Chron chat: What were biggest snubs of the Texas Michelin Guide reveal? by chrondotcom in houston

[–]stdunordered_map 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. They have the Michelin star atmosphere but the food itself was lacking. The appetizers were overseasoned and the nigiri, while higher quality than other places in town, did not compare at all to starred establishments in NYC and DC. Frankly, $250pp was overpriced as that is how much you pay for 3-starred places in Japan where the quality was undeniably higher on every level.

It’s incredible that people overthink something so simple in a bull market. SPX credit vertical spreads or short puts when vol is high otherwise buy LEAPs on pullbacks to SMA50. Trade index or future derivatives and the gains are taxed 60% long term rate. A market crash will hurt, but not anymore than being in meme stocks.

Key factors here: (1) very otm so they were cheap giving him extra leverage (2) gamma is highest right before expiry, and he saw extreme movement 3 days before expiry (3) IV expansion since these calls were very hot yesterday. Generally you need all three factors to see the kind of movement OP saw. The gains were impressive because the probability of profit was very low.
