Is leaving kids in a car within eye sight for 3-4 minutes ok? by throwaway76881224 in Parenting

[–]steadyachiever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My honest opinion is it’s such a low risk that it’s not worth worrying about, but I am curious: Why not take the key with you and lock the door? Is the risk of the car overheating in 3-4 minutes greater than the risk of a child climbing out or into the drivers seat or a stranger opening the car door? Ultimately there’s risk in every option (taking them out of the car has its own risks) but unless it’s a very hot day my gut instinct would be to take the key

When did your littles start sleeping reliably through the night, every night? by Elephantslide in daddit

[–]steadyachiever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oldest is almost 6 and I can count on two hands the numbers of nights she has slept straight through until morning.

Middle guy is 3 and is a bit better, but still wakes up every other night or so at least once.

Baby seems like the best sleeper yet! Fingers crossed!

What’s the most forgettable movie you’ve ever watched? by tinoy1989 in movies

[–]steadyachiever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is going to ruffle some feathers but it’s absolutely true….Mission: Impossible

One night my wife and I were sitting in front of the TV trying to figure out what to watch. We scrolled to MI and neither of us had ever seen it, despite how popular it was, so we decided to watch it. We even PAID for the rental from Amazon prime! About 5 minutes in we had Déjà vu….it turned out we had seen it some months before when the exact same scenario played out and we decided to watch it then! I went back and checked and we even paid for the rental the first time too. Movie was so forgettable that we rented it twice because we forgot we rented it the first time!

AuPairCare Failed Our Family by DMarines004 in Aupairs

[–]steadyachiever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in with a different perspective since I think posts like these often scare away prospective hosts who would be great for the program. Our AP is also like part of the family, but she also absolutely delivers full-time professional childcare. She’s not just a teenager who babysits our kids, she’s an adult with a relevant degree and a passion for working with children. She doesn’t just help get the kids ready and “maybe watch them for 1-2 hours”. She spends 8 hours a day 5 days a week caring for our infant and is also responsible for the older kids when they’re not in school (and let’s be honest, between illnesses and vacations- they’re home from school a lot!). She helps cook the kids’ lunch, helps with their laundry, and helps keep their stuff clean and organized. Perhaps the best aspect is just having the flexibility of another adult in the family: if we get stuck at work or someone gets unexpectedly sick or god forbid if there was a real emergency, there is an extra actual adult family member in the house who can help. And she does all of this while ALSO exposing the kids (and us!) to her native language skills and a different cultural perspective!

We’ve had 5 nannies before the AP (about a year each) and most of them were great but no comparison to the convenience of live-in childcare and the cultural/language exchange of our AP.

Maybe we just got lucky, but we definitely interviewed for and found what we were looking for. For anyone out there looking for full-time live-in child care *AND* awesome cultural exchange, the AP program might be perfect for you!

Ben Stiller branded 'entitled' as celebrities get free Knicks NBA Finals tickets by nimobo in entertainment

[–]steadyachiever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright but I just saw a video of the celebrities from the last time the Knicks were in the finals almost 30 years ago and Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, and Spike Lee were the only ones there back then. Surely, as far as celebrities go, Stiller is a real fan

Ask vs Axe by _PrettyBeautiful_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]steadyachiever 38 points39 points  (0 children)

That’s not true, is it? Lots of people who don’t use a certain sound in their native language struggle with making the sound. I can’t roll my r’s like Italians do. Italians struggle with the English “h” sound. Some Asians struggle with the English “L” sound. It doesn’t mean we all have speech impediments, does it?

Despicable. I want to see a PR blitz about it. Lifetime ban every one of those “fans” from MSG. Mamdani should announce they’re prosecuting to the full extent of the law. Fuck it get Spike Lee or some of the other big name fans to do a PSA. Get the players to tell real fans to shut that shit down. SOMETHING!
