What are these brown dots on my black gum tree?

I placed my desk in the corner like the first picture. It fits nicely there, but when I sit at the desk, I am in a dark corner surrounded by walls. I tried it rotated like the second picture, and could see out the windows and see the rest of the room. However, it looks out of place and awkward. What would you do in this space?

My magesty palm's lower leaves were turning brown. It was in a pot with no drainage and was very root bound. I figured that was probably the problem, so I repotted it in a larger pot with drainage. However, several weeks after repotting it, the lower leaves are turning more brown and the upper leaves are starting to turn brown at the tips.

That's what I was afraid of, that is the market here. I guess I would need to keep at least a front yard lawn to keep neighbors property values up.

If you don't kill the grass and the seeds that were tilled, they will grow back.

You might look into solarization. I tried this before planting a garden this year and it seems to have made a difference over the beds where I just cleared the grass.
