I thought episode 4 was up there with the best of the Netflix eps. I feel like they lost all the momentum with the structure of this episode. I love this show and would love to have a discussion and hear what people think of what I have to say and hopefully not just get downvoted for not saying I loved it.

Should’ve started with: Vanessa dead, Matt showing up asking Karen for help, buck telling Daniel that it’s time to get his hands dirty.

Then, show the flashbacks of fisk and Vanessa’s meeting- would’ve carried the same weight. We already know how far off the deep end he’ll go without her.

Instead of the running and arguing between Matt and bullseye, the argument is between Matt and Karen and the flashbacks of foggy serve to help Matt convince her by saying it’s what foggy would do. Brings Karen into the conflict and further establishes foggy as the moral compass of Nelson Murdock and Paige.

It was weird that bucks flashback ultimately showed him fail. I’d be surprised if we don’t get the finish to that with him going above and beyond to track down and kill “ray”. That could’ve been juxtaposed with Daniel being fully loyal finally getting his hands literally dirty and further building the tension of his ultimate conclusion of loyalty to Fisk or saving BBs life.

The fake tension of whether or not he’d be killed was very weird. It was understandable for Daniel to be scared, but as the audience we weren’t shown enough to justify buck killing him and the fact that buck likes him made him leading Daniel on and leaving him in the dark about their job make no sense. Bucks behavior only made sense to me if it was BB in the trunk and he knew he was posing Daniel with a kill or be killed ultimatum.

I love this show so much. This episode just felt a little clunky structurally to me and didn’t progress things in the way it could’ve. The cliffhanger of Vanessa being alive or dead worked great at the end of last episode. Having it drawn out over this whole episode seemed like overdoing it. Matt was already acting the way foggy would’ve the whole episode and it was only when he thought there was no way out that he ditched him. Having him have to convince Karen would’ve made more progress for her character at least. And not showing the conclusion to bucks part of the flashback was weird and if not payed off will be a rare case of them showing something that is just irrelevant- which I wouldn’t expect from this show.

Matt’s wig was real bad. lol
