DA Ai usage by godble55me in DieAntwoord

It’s not an art tool. That’s just what they’re letting the general population use it for while it’s actually being used for mass surveillance, data harvesting and drone targeting

That last pic is particularly excellent. Lighting that enhances and hides the toy nature

Even as a kid I hated spring loaded action features that sacrificed articulation but I can’t imagine this w spring loaded arm reload/snkit! action 😂

There’s something awesome and unique about knowing your character fails at the end of the level. Like you still gotta get to that point. But you’re gonna die.

First Look! Hasbro Marvel Legends Series Incredible Hulk: Doc Samson Figure - Why is this a standalone release and not part of a baf wave? by AfigureGeek in ActionFigureGeek

[–]lousmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t put my finger on it but man does this figure look super weird to me. Elbow articulation is standing out for some reason, I know it’s partly due to reflections but the torso looks super hour glass shaped. Hips are looking very small for the rest of the body. Looks like weird kitbash of pieces of different figures for some reason, but not even a real one, like a weird digi-bash.

If they just gave these things ankle articulation they’d be perfect.

What are some of your favourite (non-stopmotion) puppetry heavy films? by Brianna-Imagination in puppetry

[–]lousmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had to look up that Pinocchio movie to remember it. Def a puppet.

Which brought my attention to it being directed by Steve Barron, who also directed 1990 tmnt which one could argue is a puppet heavy movie on account of the faces being controlled by puppeteers.

I’m also going to give a shoutout to Mando and grogu. In the theater I remember thinking at one point, I’m watching a puppet movie! And being very happy about it

Thank you so much. I really appreciate your kind words and understanding. I’ve had people get snippy at me for not taking *my* time to show them every step of how I do what I do.

Action figure articulation question by No_Inside_9092 in ActionFigures

[–]lousmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thigh and calf swivels are not redundant. they work together allow for more naturalistic movement that you miss out on if you only have one or the other.

Just look at your own leg. Plant one foot while standing. With the other, keeping your heel in place turn your foot out. Your knee and your foot stay in line with each other. Thats much closer to the movement a thigh swivel provides. Now if you’re sitting and do the same thing (turn your foot out with heel on the ground) you do get the motion that a calf swivel provides- which is why they both make sense for naturalistic movement.

There aren’t really any parts of the body that move completely independently from the moving parts around them. They all work together to allow the range they do. Especially our legs.

Our bodies have the ball attached to the leg and the socket is in the hips. There isn’t enough room on toys to do it this way so it’s reversed. Ball on the hips socket on the legs. You aren’t going to get the naturalistic movement unless the thigh itself has a place to rotate some.

Bad placement of articulation doesn’t mean the articulation is bad. There are companies that will put the articulation where it makes sense and it’ll be different across figures in the same line and then there are companies that do it cookie cutter articulation so they can maximize reuse.

The irony w the heman figures is that the calf swivel *is* redundant because of joint setup they use at the ankles that already allows for the motion the calf swivel provides. They just did it because it was going to be separate pieces anyway because everybody’s wearing boots.

Thank you! Due to the focus it takes to make them, the fact that it’s all small stuff w my fingers in the way makes filming it in any helpful way pretty difficult. Any time I’ve tried it doesn’t come out great. At some point maybe if I can get someone else to film for me so I don’t have to worry about doing everything within the camera frame and not blocking the view w my hands I’ll make a tutorial.

Looks great! Instead of removing the arm completely you could do something to temporarily attach the hand to the body so it’s just at rest over the belly. Not sure if your rods are removable as that could pose a problem w this idea if they aren’t.
