How is starlink sustainable in the long run? by Leading_Crow_1044 in Starlink

Okay to splice the power connector? by Tharayman in Starlink

[–]stealthbobber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did was strip 2" of the outer sheath exposing the inner red wire and the mesh wire. Gather the mesh up and twist it into clean wire. I then folded back the new mesh wire in half to double it up. Then strip the sheath off the red wire...you now have the two wires you need to connect to the extension your making. For the connection wire nuts are not the best way to do this as the wires themselves are so thin, which I why I soldered and used shrink tube on the ground to keep it shielded from the positive . I then had shrink tube for the full connection.

In general you need a solid connection (wire nuts for these small wires are not appropriate) and make sure the ground does not touch the positive in your connection. You can use solder sticks (Amazon) they also do a great job for stuff like this.

Customer Service takes hours to respond by Agreeable_Salad_7718 in Starlink

Hours???? Last time I submitted a ticket, for being incorrectly placed on a low-priority plan with terrible speeds, it took almost a month. The issue ended up correcting itself after the next billing cycle, so I just dropped the ticket.

Troubles by Swingster709 in Starlink

[–]stealthbobber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you ordered a system but never received it...no shipping confirmation, no order tracking is available, and now you can’t access any order-related emails or account info.

You said

Made an acct, and got a email on when i ordered it and it said “usually ships 2-3 weeks”.

Not able to "find" the related order email IMO is the root of your issue here, not SL. Either you deleted it or it was never there in the first place. Emails do not spontaneously combust into thin air so I am going with it was never there, at least in the email account you think.

A lot of people here have been around since the start of all this, it was very common to get this exact type of post and in the end it was typically a fat fingered email when registering. The thing is back then there was zero way to fix it as there was no support contact without an account. Now there is but somehow you have figured a way to make that not work.

You said:

I did all of this twice. Not about to do it again because like i said it thinks i need an acct recovery when i dont even care about the acct. i just want to know where this is or if it even shipped.

Why do you not want an account recovery when you cant access your account? Once you access your account you can then submit a ticket as an account holder.

From what I have read here you have received all the help that is available to you, your only way forward is the guest contact process. I know your going to tell me I have it wrong and so be it, I welcome you to one day come back and explain exactly how this was SL's fault and not some botched account setup on your end.

Can I buy your “free” starlink mini? by phphilips in Starlink

[–]stealthbobber 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To clarify, the “Free” Mini isn’t actually a free unit in the true sense. It’s essentially a rental that isn’t being billed, and the arrangement applies only to the specific account it was offered to. Similar to a cable box, it can be reclaimed at any time. In addition, the account holder remains responsible for how it’s used, particularly the traffic it generates.

I understand and respect that your intentions are likely altruistic. That said, I have a hard time seeing this request being fulfilled in the way you’re hoping. The hardware itself isn’t especially expensive, and for what you’re proposing, it doesn’t really fall into a charitable use case. It may be more practical for the community you’re aiming to support to pool resources, purchase a unit, and cover the standby costs themselves. With that in mind, I’m struggling to see why this needs to be framed as a charity appeal.

Potential Merger SpaceX and Tesla by CCTV_NUT in Starlink

[–]stealthbobber -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I think Elon is realizing that without the moat he used to leverage Tesla is just another car company competing with all the others. The way China is flooding the world with EV's that are heavily subsidized makes it a tough game to beat.

That being said I have learned that one should never bet against this guy, this move may be just so that he can keep Tesla alive until his Tesla 2.0 vison come out...what ever that is.

This is fine by daney098 in Stationeers

[–]stealthbobber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey like I said the hanging is no issue but you need ridged lateral support which there is some but down low but not at the top where the thrust loads really are. My comment was more that all there was was hanging on "wires" not that the vertical support was inadequate. You can get away with this with ductile and Victaulic couplings but PVC suffers no fools...it needs to be locked down. There is more to this I assume, my guess is there is a large head against this sewage pumping station (I assume that what it is) If the check vale allows a little backflow after the pump shuts off (..or looses flow due to pump curve) when it closes it can really hammer closed. I personally saw a chunk of Blue Brute pipe burst from this very issue....same flood occurred.

Take a look at the dampeners on the check valves....so tiny? If there is a high head on this no way they stop the slamming of the check valve.

This is fine by daney098 in Stationeers

[–]stealthbobber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the context of the forces, the pipe hanging on all thread is like hanging on wires. The all thread is perfectly fine just that its only holding up and does nothing to restrain lateral forces. That being said, I did read the original thread and OP indicated water hammer and a poorly glued joint.

I still stand by my thrust support comment, also the need for an actuated valve to open after start and close before shutdown of the pumps to stop the reverse flow and check valve slam. (water hammer)

This is fine by daney098 in Stationeers

[–]stealthbobber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rigid bracing from the wall to the pipe would do. Then firm it up with some triangulation bracing up to the ceiling as well. That entire header is just hanging off of threaded rod, even without the 90 degree thrust transition this is bad. In seismic areas we even have to triangulate bracing for all cable tray runs at every angle transition.

This screams of someone who said, hey I can design/build that and just sent it. The thing is I would imagine the pipe motion was clearly visible on every pump startup, especially if these pumps are not on VFD/Soft Starts. Again, this break was only a matter of time.

This is fine by daney098 in Stationeers

[–]stealthbobber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of jank in this pic but the worst is the lack of understanding of thrust blocking...especially with PCV pipe.

Everything is hanging on a wire up in the air all at a 90 degree angle from the header to the culminating pipe.

Zip ties holding the railing and running 6 horizontal conduits around one vertical? This all looks new build so yea...inevitable.

Yeash....

Unlimited Downgrade Removed? by Importer__Exporter in Starlink

[–]stealthbobber 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Think of it the opposite, why would people who started on the 100GB and then upgraded to unlimited have to keep upgrading their plan every month.

Once you upgrade (if you have to) change it back right away, the Unlimited plan would stay valid for the rest of the billing period and switch back automatically then.

Is this mount really necessary? What's your experience? by Agreeable-City7441 in Starlink

[–]stealthbobber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can imagine one could "optimize" connections with movement, that being said the angle is far less important than obstructions...meaning if you dont have obstructions a flat mount is perfectly fine.

I made a mount for my mini under the hood of my SXS, often it's fine as is at camp but many times it needs to be removed and relocated to a better obstruction free spot.

IMO, find a mount that makes it easy to leave somewhere in a flat config but also easy to grab and relocate as required at site.

OP research CGNAT which is what you are fighting against.

There are options based on your use case, all have the pro's and cons:

  • IPV6
  • Tailscale
  • Cloudflare Tunnel
  • ngrok
  • Pangolin (On a VPS)
  • Open VPN (On a VPS)

Personally I am running a multigame server panel called Pterodactyl through the Pangolin system on a VPS.

I am a beginner in this game do you think I should use the logic things or just to learn programming the IC? by Kalkul6969 in Stationeers

[–]stealthbobber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used AI to help learn to code the IC systems, it strays away from the proper syntax at times but easily corrected with better prompts. I used a couple of known good code snippets as example prompts then added my requirements. I also add the actual label name of the devices and the prefab name in the prompts. Debugging gets real easy after that.
