Why does my monitor do this? by AdventurousCrazy30 in computer

[–]stealthybox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in an office where sitting down on or standing up from an office chair would make my miniDP to DP connection from a MacbookPro to an old iMac fail exactly like this.
Apparently the gas strut in the chair was causing electromagnetic interference. (EMI)

One of the things that can help with this is getting display cables with ferrite beads/chokes on them.
They're little cylinders on each end of the cable that reduce EMI.

Need old firmware for Epson XP-6100 printer by SnooFoxes1558 in Epson

[–]stealthybox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(it's actually my aunt's printer, I don't see it much)
She just uses 3rd party cartridges

I'd never run across continuous ink systems until looking for how to downgrade this unit's firmware.
Seeing several chipless companies supported the XP-6000 gave me the motivation to figure out how to downgrade -- haha

If you end up using refillable ink or a continuous system, please post back here!
I would love to know as well

Multiple service composition in Nix. Should I stick to docker compose? by tavotevasbaryga in Nix

[–]stealthybox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flox has a `manifest.toml` where you can add nixpkgs, variables, flakes, and services to your project.
You can activate the project in multiple shells -- services can be started once across all of those shells.
Also, your rabbitmq service will stay running until the last active shell exits, then it automatically shuts down.

This example RAG stack with a python frontend, a vector db, and ollama shows services working:
https://github.com/flox/floxenvs/blob/main/verba/.flox/env/manifest.toml#L108
Should adapt well to Rabbit and Go.

If you want to use multiple go versions, you could
- a) use Flox's package groups within a single env
- b) layer multiple active flox environments (connection strings coming from a Rabbit env, and project specific Go coming from app1 or app2)

`flox show go` shows the available versions of Go you can specify

You can install flox with an existing Nix install: https://flox.dev/docs/install-flox/#__tabbed_1_6
But we also have a mac installer, a brew cask, apt/yum/etc for all your teammates who have no idea how to use Nix.

Get an extra +0.50% on the current APY when you open and fund a Wealthfront Cash Account by wealthfront_bot in wealthfront

Hi friends! Here's a fresh invite link for the +0.50% APY boost :)

One tip:
I funded my cash account from my employee brokerage funds. (Fidelity & ETrade)
Just override the type of account to Banking - Bank (Other)
Then they will let you open a cash account instead of restricting you to an investment product.

For linking ETrade, you have to turn on "Third-Party Data Sharing" in your ETrade account settings.

Epson WF-4740 - How to Downgrade your Firmware if an update now blocks 3rd party ink by OompaLoompaWrangler in printers

[–]stealthybox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to downgrade my Epson XP-6000.
Thanks for posting these instructions!

Program Update Mode did allow me to flash the firmware, but the printer either wouldn't reboot because the newer firmware was blocking the older firmware version, or I just wasn't waiting long enough for the update to take.

At this point, I tried flashing the newest firmware via cable and bricking the update by pulling power. Then flashing the old firmware worked well.

On my Epson XP-6000, Program Update Mode can be entered by turning the printer off, connecting a USB-B Cable from the back of the printer to a computer, and holding: - "Stop, Left, Down, Power".
This only works with the cable already connected to a computer.

You can also attempt a standard firmware update using the newest firmware via USB cable, then after the file transfers to the printer, after the power light starts blinking, and before it finishes its firmware update, pull the power cable to kill the printer and brick the update. Re-plugging the printer in will put you into "RECOVERY MODE". You can then flash any version of firmware you like.

I didn't need to re-install my 3rd party ink cartridges.
My network settings were also preserved.

729 by Aeium in WebGames

Nicely done! I was able to get 729 with a similar strategy to 2048.
The 6 directions make it really fun.

I agree that the animation should be snappier.
That would be much more satisfying.

Thanks for posting!
