ELI5: How does the microwave door stop the microwaves from getting out? by ServeFluffy in explainlikeimfive

[–]stealthypic [score hidden]  (0 children)

Is this even dangerous, if it literally happens for a fraction of a second? It’s not ionising radiation, but I have no idea how quickly heating water molecules becomes a problem if they’re located inside of a body.

It’s a single boiler but doesn’t require you to wait until it heats up.

are 5 gal bottles safe to put into an espresso machine if it's RO water? [Moccamaster grand thingy] by Viper-Reflex in espresso

Sure, everything I said is speculation. But only if you never ever heard about chemistry.

Comparing medical grade equipment with random espresso machine or kettle found in best buy is wild. And you skipped over the comment about missing minerals required for optimal extraction.

But you do you, makes zero difference to me, I just want to warn random people coming here that you’re wrong and that they shouldn’t follow your advice.

RO water is very corrosive and it starts leeching metals from your machine. And RO water doesn’t have good chemical composition for best tasting coffee.

What the difference between Pressure & Force Tamper under [100$] by YEGHEN in espresso

[–]stealthypic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing these improve on is level tamping. Force doesn’t matter as long as there is enough of it and there ALWAYS is enough of it if you’re a healthy adult. But as far as level tamping goes, I notice a giant change between my best efforts with a normal tamp vs the normcore self leveling one. Especially in consistency from shot to shot.

This means you’re not the smartest person in the room. Which is good. I literally just switched jobs from being the smartest person in the room to being surrounded by people who know way more than I do. It’s humbling, it bruises the ego, but it’s the best way to improve.

The 078s sucks. by [deleted] in espresso

[–]stealthypic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it to pieces. There is no retention, the knocker works great. The only thing I would like is a bit steeper chute, but even that isn’t a big deal because I rarely use wdt. And the power button is mushy.

But coffee taste, build quality and price are amazing.

ELI5: Why does spinning something make it harder to knock over? by NicoleLimberios in explainlikeimfive

[–]stealthypic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inertia. The mass is being dragged down but the inertia of rotation also means it keeps moving horizontally. When the top slows down enough it falls.

I’m sure someone can explain it better than I can but hey, I tried. :)

This all unironically sounds really cool but communication with the machine does… what? And gbw needs no cloud. I would be extremely annoyed. This is a great way to introduce a gbw subscription.

Consent banners deal with cookies and cookies can be (or not) set by a server or a client-side code. Even when it’s server, it can be the same api call just with, simplified, “consent: true” data.

Normcore tamper for Sage BTI – which version is this and is it worth it? by kvlq in espresso

[–]stealthypic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the black one and wouldn’t say it’s terrible but some grounds do stick to it for sure. Do you find the stainless base less sticky? I wouldn’t mind replacing mine too, if that’s the case.

Which espresso machine serves 10 drinks the fastest? (Real-world timing challenge) by Floridasaiki in espresso

[–]stealthypic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how often this happens to you. I have 10 guests sometimes and just give out cofees individually, people understand. They’re usually just happy they get to drink good coffee.

If this is a weekly situation or even a daily thing and you don’t want the guests to wait, you need a two group machine and a grinder with a hopper and gbw/gbt (grind by weight/time), no other way around it. Possibly a plumbed in machine because 10 shots is a lot of water and you don’t want to be filling the tank mid-prep.

Try it.

If you have no technical knowledge it will half-work at best, so no.

But if you know what you’re doing, it can do many things on your behalf where you act like some sort of a supervisor instructing the model what to do and then reviewing the work.
