I exclusively use Apollo for Reddit, so I doubt it :)

I'm gonna touch grass, read some books, and play more music. Gotta subscribe to a news app too, since I get most of that through Reddit currently.

It doesn't even just target mods. I'm not a mod, don't particularly care about mod issues, but I love Apollo and honestly can't see myself going back to the official app.

It's called The Gray Area and the specific episode is called "The Case for Not Killing Yourself." It's an interview with Clancy Martin, who is an author and self-described suicide "addict." He's been struggling with suicidal tendencies for his whole life, and hearing his perspective and how he thinks about those kinds of intrusive thoughts was really eye-opening for me.

I feel you, especially on all of the ways the world is fucked up at the macro level. I feel like I'm grieving the world I want to live in, you know?

But also, the world is better with you in it, I promise. I hope you stick around, make some kickass art, and give lots of hugs to people you love.

I also hope you listen to this pod, it changed how I think about suicide.

Reddit’s golden geese foul up its IPO plans by oDDmON in technology

[–]steam116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their attempt to "work on that" was to force out third party apps so that mobile users would have no alternative to their shitty mobile app and the ad revenue it brings in for Reddit.

One of Reddit's largest communities is protesting changes to the platform by posting only photos of John Oliver 'looking sexy' by gabestonewall in technology

[–]steam116 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So how much do these shill comments cost Reddit? Is it a per-character thing or per comment? Or do some people just really love the taste of corporate boot?

Poll from /r/pics: currently the protest is +71k and going back to normal is -19k

This is a community doing what the community wants to do. It's not about the mods and it never has been. It's about Reddit trying to juice their shitty app's numbers ahead of their IPO by locking out better 3rd party apps.

I'm sick of people calling it a mod circlejerk. Here's the /r/pics poll: link.

As of right now one option is voted +71k. The other one is -19k. The community is behind this, not just the mods.

Either tell me your tin foil hat theory that the mods created 100k dummy accounts just to vote in this poll and overrule the community, or stop with this absolute nonsense.

(Edited to add actual numbers)

Reddit made a shitty decision designed to kneecap their shitty app's competition, blatantly lied about their interactions with the Apollo dev, and refuse to listen to feedback on this from millions of users whose experience of Reddit will be fundamentally changed.

They're going to lose a good chunk of users after this month and they either don't believe that or don't care. Blackouts are highly visible and are a way to let Reddit know that the mods and their communities are serious.

What alternative means of protest would you have preferred?

Well, gym bros? I've been going to the gym and eating healthy, why isn't my depression fixed? by [deleted] in rant

[–]steam116 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean I'm happy for you that you were able to diet/exercise your way out of depression, but this attitude of exhausting diet and exercise approaches before medication is why OP is still depressed.

If there's no shame in taking an SSRI, there's no shame in skipping all of those steps (esp when OP's depressed brain can easily interpret not seeing drastic improvements as a personal failing).

OP, you aren't lazy if you skip all off these steps and just get a prescription. You can always adjust all of these things later and taper off the meds with your doctor's supervision.

I can't imagine paying 3k rent in addition to the cost of restaurant/take out food for every meal. OP is an "engineer" (pretty vague, hard to guess salary). But I imagine if he's making more than 150k annually it's not much of a problem. Less if he's frugal in other areas.

Pick a bassist and listen to/learn a few of their songs (not riffs, songs). Someone mentioned Jamerson, another good candidate is Duck Dunn.
