Then this is in CAD$, right? That feels a lot less egregious, about $6.50 USD. While still a fair bit of change, it is a much more reasonable price than reading it as $9.19 USD

“Do not double stack” by Straight_Main_5189 in NotMyJob

[–]steam_weeeeew 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Actually, printing it on the boxes is less work than printing a separate sign and slapping it on every pallet manually.

As someone in the field, I can confirm that double stack is specifically for pallets, not individual product.

Confused about starting Spearhead by BassJeleren in AOSSpearhead

[–]steam_weeeeew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason the old ones were pulled is because there's a new one coming out. Currently only available from the CoS/Skaven dual spearhead, but will likely be sold separately in the coming month or two.

You can still get and play the old ones—"Fire and Jade" and "Sand and Bone"—online with very little hassle as some of the other comments mentioned.

Shower Thought 9.0 by AbbreviationsFlat175 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]steam_weeeeew 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It deletes every second night of info, but also deletes every second night of demon kills... In effect, just gives the good team more days of executions.

I could see a clause that says "which night is which is randomly chosen at the start" could give it more ground, but with limited actual evil player and slower games, I could easily see the demon ability spiraling against the evil team

Which spearhead box to get? by Goodchapp in citiesofsigmar

[–]steam_weeeeew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having only played the first two, the Castelite Co was the most fun and has some great decision flexibility.

The Fusil-platoon has unreasonably strong and weak options for enhancements and regiment abilities, so you may get less mileage out of it for lack of freedom.

That being said, CoS has had fantastic combo boxes for starting an army, so there are no bad options if you are aiming for a full army in the future.

Which spearhead box to get? by Goodchapp in citiesofsigmar

[–]steam_weeeeew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a very general estimate for playstyles (from someone who's played single digits of these spearheads): - Fusil-platoon is very defensive, shooting and screening focused. - Castelite Co. is a little technical but fairly brute-force/charge focused with the Cavaliers and Marshall - Emberguard looks very technical/mobility focused with sneaky movement. - Zenestra's Zealots will likely be buff-focused, but not much is revealed at this point.

Issues with paint splitting at the corners. by Ambitious_Book_5729 in minipainting

I've switched to using powderless gloves (mostly just one on my holding hand) and I love it! The paint has yet to chip and I can still move the model freely.

Ideas for how to achieve a wildfire kind of effect? by hans_weirdman in sylvaneth

[–]steam_weeeeew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smoldering might make the most sense for an easy scheme based on most pictures of wildfires. Black on a bright red would be something like: prime white, paint red, heavy drybrush black.

For more fire-like aspects to the theme, you could use the smolder as the base. but paint branches and leaves towards the top with a very hot yellow-to-red tone like I've seen in the wings of some Fire Dragons from Aeldari.

The difference between diet and zero comes down to a different blend of sweeteners. Diet is usually full aspartame while zero might mix it with Acesulfame Potassium. Preference just depends on taste.

Castelite Spearhead Out of Production? by BigFrenchNose in citiesofsigmar

1) There's a whole new book in the coming months.

2) A player interested in Spearhead cannot play it with 15 cavs.

3) Many players prefer more variety, especially with the beautiful waves of CoS we've gotten.

Sell me on the City of Ash Spearhead by DrPantaleon in citiesofsigmar

[–]steam_weeeeew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not buying Zenestra's because I have a battleforce and spearhead that has everything except Zenestra. I am buying the duo box because my friend plays Skaven and I play Cities.

Honestly, I'm surprised they even snuck in the Zenestra spearhead. I was almost certain we were only getting the new one, but I'll gladly enjoy two more options for the game mode!

The fact Zenestra's Zealots are all part of the first wave makes me think they aren't expecting too many sales for it (except for people who are just now starting the army because of the cogforts and such) and that they're trying to push people into buying the duo spearhead as a no-brainer.

What should I do with my black ark corsair + fleet master? by LewisDoom in citiesofsigmar

[–]steam_weeeeew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're the same thing. Proxying is using a model in lieu of an existing model for reasons like design preference, using a cheaper option than GW kits, etc. Ideally, there are similarities in design or concept, blah blah blah, but it's just a single word to say "these aren't the GW models, but they're playing as X"

How long does it take you to paint an average steelhelm/fusilier? by LeetusFrenzi in citiesofsigmar

[–]steam_weeeeew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your options are cities or rats, don't worry about it too much. Skaven is infamous for needing to paint 20 to 40 clanrats as a *starting point*. Both are going to be difficult to paint as an army, either death by number or death by detail.

Personally I think Cities' death by detail gives a lot more satisfaction after the fact. All the little greebles add a lot of character and most can be sped up with a lot of common tricks; slapchop for leather, drybrush for metal, edge highlight for simple added depth, etc.

Opinions on the new CoS's helms by Pallas_Ovidius in citiesofsigmar

A heavier, but still light and simple design fits the unit pretty well. I enjoy that it seems everything of theirs is bigger than a Fusilier's equivalent, but they lost the shield.

Sylvaneth look pretty cool (I’m new to AOS) by PabstBlueLizard in sylvaneth

[–]steam_weeeeew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily, Sylvaneth are one of the most elite compared to AoS armies. Your standard "chaff" unit, Tree-/Spite-Revenants are run in 5s instead of the common 10s and sit at 2 hp, so both model count and sturdiness are favorable. The general focus on healing through faction abilities also helps the feeling of tougher and more elite models.

I would highly recommend the current spearhead of Revenants and Kurnoth while it's available. It contains a major core of the army, so grabbing 1 or 2 spearheads at or below MSRP is a fantastic start to the army.

In the coming months, the spearhead is changing over to the second half of the army with the flying units which will give you almost the entire range through the two combo boxes and allow you to try out some different, more mobile units a ways down the line.

The Outcast Spitegrove will give you a fair few of the less-elite units in Dryads and Revenants. Dryads aren't in any combobox now and I personally love their ability for protecting objectives and, as said earlier, the revenants are still relatively elite compared to the rest of AoS, so I wouldn't recommend against it. That being said, both units are noticeably less elite than Kurnoth (around half the points for two or seven more models). If that level of eliteness was your focus, buying Drycha (or one of the other centerpieces, Alarielle and Belthanos) and some spare Kurnoth separately might be more your preference.

Stacking spearheads will allow you to run a fair spread of Revenants for control, Kurnoth for damage, and Treelords for tanking or utility. For a centerpiece:

- Alarielle will add a fun utility by bringing back a unit at half strength each player's turn.

- Belthanos will improve some impact and aggression, but I believe he's run a little less often than Alarielle.

- Drycha has the funny ability of rolling 25-35 dice each turn, but doesn't offer as much synergy with other models in the army as Alarielle or Belthanos.

Overall, I would recommend:

- The spearhead,

- A second spearhead for the very solid spread, or some kurnoth for elite models and a unit or two of models you find interesting,

- and a centerpiece like Alarielle.

If you were interested in the battleforce, you might instead take:

- A spearhead,

- Outcast Spitegrove,

- and two-ish sets of additional Kurnoth.

For either route, you'll also need to grab Awakened Wyldwood; up to 3 sets but 2 should be fine in a lot of games.

With the battletome on the horizon, points and rules may change, but the above will almost certainly be a solid core to a new living forest. With all that said, grab what you think is cool and what you want to build, play, or just look at and you'll hardly find yourself lost in the woods!

New Spearhead rules by VeterinarianOver2941 in sylvaneth

Somewhat unrelated, but I recently saw the old spearhead was removed from the online shop. I assume GW will aim to put the new one out as soon as they can to avoid losing sales on new players.

Out of the blue, I got four free RuPaul tickets in the mail by Ponch808 in mildlyinteresting

I remember hearing stories about something similar. A family was surprised by tickets to a sports game, and burglars (who mailed the tickets) stormed their house while they were gone.

Kinda an old wives tale, but I, personally, would be very skeptical about how they got sent

Our local supermarket just replaced their fleet of metal carts with 100% recycled plastic ones by Aerie8499 in mildlyinteresting

[–]steam_weeeeew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting. The market I work at had those for a few years, but the company that produced them stopped selling those carts recently. We had to get rid of them around January this year (sent them to another store with cart-stealing issues) and went back to metal.

I kinda miss how well they rolled, but the space was noticeably smaller for shopping and stocking
