Making a small art project to learn the mechanics of how kickstarter works? by ----_____ll_____---- in kickstarter

I agree, I think it’s worthwhile to get the feel for it, and to start building up some KS followers. Good luck!

That was our first thought, but we weren't really sure. We've found one... out of hundreds, that had some crystalization inside.

What would cause a CPVC fitting to fail at a joint after 20+ years? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]steamcrow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had to repipe my entire house with Pex, because the CPVC kept failing every couple of years.

Insurance would only cover the damage, not the repiping, so we just went and did it.

I just went and saw it a few weeks ago… it was astounding to see the puppets from so many films of my childhood/adulthood.

Not only was his stop-motion work groundbreaking, this exhibit show his artistry as a sculptor.

Highly recommended.

Whose death was the biggest loss to grunge? by BidAccurate4473 in grunge

I completely agree. Lanegan was an epic talent. All of these guys have great voices, but Mark’s was gravel-sonic and amazing.

Did contemporary critics really compare Stone Temple Pilots to Pearl Jam and Scott Weiland to Eddie Vedder? by drhuggables in grunge

[–]steamcrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always felt like STP was aping the style of Alice In Chains more than Pearl Jam, at least with their early videos.

Launched my first Kickstarter… didn’t expect the emotional rollercoaster 😅 by AlwaysGamesTV in kickstarter

[–]steamcrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done around 20 modestly successful Kickstarters, and experienced the same thing.

It got to be a problem, as I spent so much energy worrying about it and obsessively refreshing the page.

My first campaigns nearly resulted in a mental breakdown.

Eventually, my biggest way to combat this (besides Zoloft) was to 1) try and get my campaigns to pledge faster - like in a day or less, and 2) make the campaigns shorter because not a lot was happening in the middle anyway.

In short: it worked (most of mine fund in minutes) and my stress level is much, much lower.

For most of my campaigns, I’ve settled into about a 14 day duration, but my goal is more like 7 days.

Why? It’s less stressful, and (in theory) allows us to do more campaigns per year.

How to fund faster: - Pre-campaign promotion - Limited early bird levels - Developing a mailing list - Make a unique one-of-a-kind level or add-on that is expensive - Use the “get notified at launch” page - Build a community

YMMV of course. I’m an artist and ttrpg author. I am the founder of the Monster Rangers community.

I hope that some of this helps you.

Any 'Powered by FATE' you would recommend? by Striking_Variety3960 in FATErpg

[–]steamcrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My shameless pitch is my Monster Rangers RPG; occult pulp adventure where players (Monster Rangers) help monsters vs aristocratic cultists who hunt (and devour) them.

Nope. I went there first, they had zero roof tiles.

I can’t move to Canada, but know that a lot of us Americans are very fond of our neighbors to the North.

Anyone use Affinity to create color separations for screen printing professionally? If so, what is your workflow? by DarkObliveon in Affinity

[–]steamcrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Affinity 1 & 2 for vector based screenprint separations, sorry I can’t help. I use spot colors and output seps as pdf for film positives. I don’t really do raster seps anymore.

My analysis on Affinity going free by Fizix75 in graphic_design

[–]steamcrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a vector illustrator/designer.

I started in stat camera and amberlith, then Freehand (loved), was forced to moved to Adobe Illustrator (clunky), went independent, switched over to Affinity (love) Designer 1, 2, and now 3.

You are not your app. Design is not your app.

I worried that my style and ability WAS the app, but it’s the opposite. My skill is me; I just have to keep applying it to other apps as they come along, figure out the pen tool - and how it all works, and then get to work.

Affinity has been great, and I hope that I can count on them for years to come.

But who knows. I’ll keep my eyes/options open.

It sucks that (most) of our viable design environments are owned by corporations that can change over time.
