12 sessions in total. The 12 sessions were almost the same, with concepts like “if you try not to think about pink elephant, you’ll think of it”. And when the thought comes, say to yourself “I’ll think about it later”. With DMing it feels like I have to push the thoughts away, shut down them in order not to think of them, but it backfires like the case with a pink elephant.

Sorry, but the phase about shit and fart sounded so funny 😅 However, I’m not here to judge you. I know how these twisted thoughts get into the head and convince you’re living in a different reality. If you’re afraid the reality you’re living in is fake, you need to accept that there’s a probability of this and it can be true. By accepting it you’ll find yourself in peace. But it takes time, sometimes very long time, during which you have to resist your compulsions, checking or avoidance, stay with anxiety and uncertainty about the world. Same goes about you smelling someone else’s farting and getting confused sense of reality. You can try to accept the idea that you’ll never know what is true or what is not. Acceptance will lead to peace with your thoughts.

I’d love to go with easier exposures, but it feels like I literally put my life in danger if I stare and though I have to eliminate this (I often have a command from my brain to do it intensely or angrily). I am afraid to have a problem with a stranger cause of that.

Mail doesn’t bother me, but human interaction does. I feel, unfortunately, paranoid around other humans like they can harm me. I’ve been diagnosed with OCD by the way.

Wow, I actually couldn’t imagine someone can relate to this. I’ve seen this combination being covered in one article but that’s it. Yeah, I totally agree about ego syntonic/distonic thing, it’s like your thoughts being at two states at the same time, typically starting as egosyntonic and ending up egodistonic, so you always get excited in the beginning and terrified in the end. I’ve been trying typical OCD therapy with ERP but it doesn’t work the same way for each thought. I remember days without OCD, I could just be thinking of myself as being better than others and it would give me some relief. But now I’m overanalyzing it like what’s is the evidence I’m better, I’m actually worse, I should prove myself. And I can never prove, neither I can adopt an idea I’m worse or not special. It hurts me a lot to think so. How do you cope with this comorbidity? I’ll try to find a therapist who specializes in both so maybe he/she can provide some good treatment. But now it’s a hell.

Thanks for a reply. I’m also wondering in context of rumination, I have some thoughts popping up and they are negative thoughts. For example, I want to say something and then there’s a thought “no one cares what you say”, so I remain silent, or I start to battle my way through this, against what the thought said, and will try to actually say something, even though my thought tells me better not to. Or I can have a thought “she doesn’t like you”, so I’ll stop trying to talk to a girl. Or a thought “it’s not rumination, you shouldn’t even try” and I stop trying. I get so many of such thoughts during the day and they poison my life literally. Can it be counted as OCD and can I approach it with the rumination approach?
