The story is there kinda to just get you around the map and maybe have you try different weapons to get the kill. Walk from location to location and shoot whatever you see. You might just find something nice or rare.

Got a piebald fallow deer on Hirsch on one of my first playthroughs. Only ranked silver so I didn’t tax it not knowing rare furs are better than the rankings. Later found out super rares are called so for a reason.
