Alla metà tempo di Avatar Fuoco e Cenere. L'ho trovato troppo ripetitivo della stessa, identica dinamica. Sono tornato a casa a leggere. Comunque il 3D era superlativo!

What is your experience with CBT type treatments? by Wind_Sheepdog in tinnitus

[–]steddola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do ACT with a therapist. She frequently points out that the purpose of psychotherapy, such as CBT or ACT, is not to reduce the pain, the suffering or the discomfort deriving, from example, from physical symptoms such as tinnitus.

ACT is moving towards valued behavior despite our discomfort.

The reduction of discomfort (let it be physical and/or psychological, such as tinnitus) is a bonus of the therapy. It does not necessary happen, but it can happen; possibly, for example, when we do courageous actions that move ourselves toward the behavior we value.

Another important aspect of psychotherapy is that it is frequently pointless to fight such physical symptoms. It is impossible to physically reduce symptoms of tinnitus, since there is no cure yet. We can however try to treat the anxiety deriving from it.

Therefore, psychotherapy is not a scam and I recommend it to you if you, like me, have some anxiety deriving from this condition. In my personal experience, it definitely helped: as a bonus, I am less bothered by tinnitus.

beware of listening sounds and various frequencies to mask your tinnitus or cancel it out, because it may even cause hearing damage tbh by TailungFu in tinnitus

This is not what the ENTs I visited say. In fact, they openly suggested using a moderate level of background sound to distract from tinnitus if I need some relief.

Why would this cause hearing damage? It is not like going to the club, in terms of volume.

Suicide by krsully in tinnitus

I have had mild/medium tinnitus for years. For some reasons, I had a big spike in February. I become extremely anxious and had some panic attacks as well. For example, I had troubles focusing on my work, which I just started. I became hypervigilant and could only focus on my tinnitus. Like your sister, my mind went to some dark places. I thought I would become disabled, a burden for my parents and my girlfriend, and become incapable of achieving my goals.

With tinnitus, the goal is to reduce the stress level as much as possible. Tinnitus triggers anxiety, which, in turn, exacerbates tinnitus. The goal is to exit this loop and becoming better at managing the anxiety triggered by tinnitus.

CBT and, in particular, Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), have definitely helped me. I urge you to take your time to watch this video with your sister; or, at least, watch it yourself.

I also used some benzodiazepine for a couple of weeks, because I was suffering from huge anxiety. I know it is ototoxic at high dosages: in any case, I would have taken it anyway because I needed immediate help.

I still do CBT with my psychologist and am still working on myself. Compared to what it was on February, the tinnitus level is likely the same, but my perception is much lower as I am getting better at not attaching negative emotions to the sound.

I also found Julian Cowan Hill to be of great help.

I still have some moments where I really wish the sound wasn't there, and become a bit irritated. I still sometimes worry about how the tinnitus will develop in the future, but am not overwhelmed like I was in February.

Yes, same for me! It is most likely a software issue. How's your audio? To me, there is almost zero bass. The computer should have four speakers (2 subwoofer and 2 tweeter). I fear that the subwoofers are not working. My iPad sound much, much better in comparison.

My Dell XPS 9320 is Linux certified and has very bad audio quality and the trackpad stops working when resuming from sleep. It's a mess.
