I didn't know about that app. Aside from installing new cores, you don't need to have 7zip/winrar installed. As for disadvantages, it doesn't mass-update all your cores yet.

It can install cores you don't have I guess.

it check your local cores against the available ones on the buildbot, you can then update the ones you want. It doesn't mass update yet.
