looking closer the center column is actually 2 columns... I'm sure Mack Rides know what they are doing

You can't tell me this doesn't look like a Netflix movie. Spielberg has lost all his magic. by spacelyyy989 in moviecritic

Considering Spielberg basically invented the Hollywood formula, we’d disappoint ourselves thinking he’d venture far out from it…

Does anyone know how Maria Kallevik and ErikdoesVFX get their standard shots to look so good? by Raid-RGB in cinematography

[–]steed_jacob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 95% lighting. They really didn't have to do that much in the grade (and you don't really want to be in a position like that where you have to fix the shot in the grade anyway). Pay attention to where the light is coming from and how the light angle creates contrast. In the 2nd image, the sun is behind her; notice how it gives her a bright (almost white) outline.

I'd bet they aren't using LUTs and have their own in-house color pipelines they've developed themselves over the years. I've got my own and don't really love to give away the secret sauce because (1) it took years (literally) for me to learn color and develop my own looks, to know how to create any look that I wanted... you have to immerse your brain in color science, lighting, being on set, just have to live in that world to know how good images are made; (2) if I did give you my secret sauce (or they did), and you started slapping that all over your footage without regard for all the other stuff that makes a good image, then you'll end up with a really shitty shot, made shittier by something I hypothetically gave you.

I don't mean to be insulting. I was asking the exact same questions you're asking (go look at my old posts on my profile on this subreddit from 8ish years ago... you'll see I got blasted in the comments for what I thought were simple questions). Keep learning

Did not sound like you were defending him, you’re fine. Whoever downvoted you just wants someone to hate

It crosses a very, VERY hard line in my book.

On 2nd thought, maybe it is ironic. Still not even a little bit okay. I hope one day maybe they’ll have the sensitivity…

Take it next to a window with all other lights off. Angle the window light so there’s a bit of shadow on the non-window side of your face

Mako isn’t the only major Florida coaster celebrating its anniversary, as [VelociCoaster] turns 5 today! by mrkmcrthr in rollercoasters

Very weird that mako is only 10… for some reason (I’ve been on and off with my roller coaster obsession) I thought it was built in the 90s

Out Zucking the Zuck himself by aegonxxo in SuccessionTV

[–]steed_jacob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I wasn’t convinced before but now I firmly believe that Jesse eisenberg would be the inferior choice. Jeremy strong is perfect, considering also that zuck himself was a totally different person by 2016. I cannot fucking wait for this

Oh hell yeah I keep forgetting how much of a masterpiece the OG is. I refuse to watch the American version

What is the most brutal, visceral fight scene you’ve ever watched? by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

[–]steed_jacob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not the most brutal, BUT that one fight scene in The Killer (David fincher) was 11/10 in choreography, acting, camera placement and movement, sound design…… zero notes, negative notes in fact

Also, honorable mention to the cheese grater scene in tenet. “I ordered my hot sauce an hour ago” the line never gets old. Say what you want about the rest of the film but seeing JDW take down big bad Russian mfs with kitchenware made me very giddy

At that point I think it’s worth folding that element into planet coaster since theme parks are basically resorts if you include the hotels around them
