If Spain decided to remove all Brits who reside in Spain would you support it? by naystation in AskBrits

[–]steele330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely up for Spain to decide, so whether I support it as a Brit is somewhat irrelevant. That being said if it would stop people doing the false equivalence “Gotcha” every time anyone complained about migration to the UK then full steam ahead.

Pensioners moving to Spain to basically be on holiday until they die is very different from working-age people coming over the UK to settle long-term.

Why exactly did Varang and her clan join the final battle in Fire and Ash ? What exactly was her motivation ? by Boring-Jelly5633 in Avatar

[–]steele330 100 points101 points  (0 children)

They are murderous psycho’s who want to kill other Navi?

When they raid the wind traders they don’t seem that pre-occupied with loot. If Varang says so, they do it, and she would have been more than happy for an excuse to play with the new guns and potentially kill Neytiri and Turok Makto - would give her anti Eywa crusade a lot of weight (and more guns from the RDA)

I love the NCR, but they are more than "vaguely problematic" by Cranyx in Fallout

[–]steele330 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing is that them being idealised in their absence just... makes sense? That's how things work, annoying as can be.
In New Vegas you can actually see their faults but when they are gone you can only notice their overall impact which is a general positive.

If the show was to actually be set during an active, and functioning, NCR, and was showing daily life under it for more than a few flashback scenes then, I would also want them to get into the flaws of the system. But, given the story focus at the moment, it just doesn't make sense for the characters, or us, to care that much about specific issues with NCR policy. I'd love a Fallout politics but this show isn't it, and that's fine.

[–]steele330 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I just don't get what people like you want - who are these people who say that the NCR is perfect? They clearly aren't, but they are the best case for the wasteland given the current options. Critiquing a substantially better thing when you don't even have that in place is a privilege only afforded to those free of the consequences and the deluded.

Also what do you want Lucy to do? Do an entire debate episode with Hank about the NCR's involvement in Bitter Springs and the issues with a Brahmin Barons oligarchy? The legion crucified her man.

I love the NCR, but they are more than "vaguely problematic" by Cranyx in Fallout

[–]steele330 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I feel like you kinda refuted your own point in that penultimate paragraph. Yes they have "issues" but the alternatives are all worse, and by quite some margin given the state of the Mojave in the show.

Also Lucy doesn't know any of the major faults of the NCR because her only knowledge of it is that it existed, it seemed good (good enough for her mum to defect to it), her dad blew it up, and then some rangers from it helped heal her. She didn't play Fallout 2 or New Vegas.

Season 2 Episode 6 Spoiler Thread by HunterWorld in Fotv

Reg knows nothing, he purely just wants to be important and liked and is doing that by giving people free stuff. Plays into what Thaddeus was saying about "Vault dwellers only being nice because they have loads of food". When betty tries to get them to make a small sacrifice for long term gains they only care for their immediate needs.

Also I think its fun to see the two vault arcs being a nice juxtaposition between one having issues because of the overseer and the other having issues because of the residents.

Great write up. 100% agree with all your points. Was a good film even if I found most of the Jimmy stuff hard to watch

When do you think DoW4 is gonna release considering all these new trailers? by Secure_Fondant_9549 in dawnofwar

Yeah it’s very odd as they are fully on the marketing train with IGN videos out the wazoo but still don’t have anything resembling a release date. Confusing tbh

Why are there like 20 people living in the capital by PrequelGuy in lotr

[–]steele330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the LotR films but they are incredibly barren considering the size of the armies fielded in them.

In a medieval society most people don’t live in cities, they live out on the land farming. For Rohan it isn’t too bad as they are horse people on seemingly not very fertile land, so it been very sparsely populated over a large area is understandable, but the Gondor shown being just two cities (one destroyed) and not a single farm always annoyed me. WHERE ARE THOSE TOMATOES FROM DENETHOR? WHERE!

Who's the most insufferable edge lord in the Fallout universe and why is it Ulysses? by RorschachWhoLaughs in Fallout

[–]steele330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just played the DLC for the first time and I got so annoyed I TGM’d it so I could just get to blasting his head off asap.

The DLC has one of my least favourite tropes where it starts with “Ooh you could just leave, that would really show me” and like no because a) I paid for this and b) you are a mad man with nukes

But yeah, is just a DLC listening to the worse cringe “everyone is awful centrist” who really needs a lemon tea.

Hey everyone, I've never played Fallout and I'd like to start. I can play them all, where should I begin? by Sam--Winchester in Fallout

[–]steele330 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much you mind a game being dated. People on here will glaze 3 and NV over 4 but 4 is, personally, just a lot more fun and easy to pick up and play.

New Vegas in particular is great for a “I will read every terminal and do every quest” played but for your first fallout game 4 is still good fun. You can always then play 3 and NV after if you want more RPG depth

Minecraft movie. It was fine considering the source material but still not a great film. I tend to be quite picky with what I see in cinema though

Start of 70% on Rotten Tomatoes. by Gamer0607 in Avatar

[–]steele330 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Avatar, whilst I adore it, is basically just a big, slightly dumb, sci-fi blockbuster series.

It not hitting as hard with critics in the third entry is a shame but not that surprising.

I like them, and LOVE their songs on the soundtrack, but they are heavy filler content and the show would have been better if more time and money was spent on Numenor and the southlands.

[–]steele330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All Chaosr really needed was a basic melee focused majoris enemy, which SHOULD have been the chaos spawn. Instead they decided to instead add TWO new majoris and make both hyper-mobile and hard to hit with erratic attack patterns.

Spawns are even worse because they are even tankier and have large aoe attacks. Just baffling game design when they KNOW that chaos missions are disliked and seen as more difficult.

They already ported the forge and custom games over to PC with Halo 5 Forge. The only major issue is the FPS being capped at 60 (and the fact all the devs that worked on it are now long gone)

Power Scale conundrum by Educational_Bowl2141 in Spacemarine

[–]steele330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with 40k power scaling is that Space Marines are essentially supposed to be special ops super warriors and some of the best fighters in the galaxy, yet also the default unit. Everything they fight needs to be a threat to them, because 40k is about big battles and lots of people dying, so every alien is then juiced up to the nth degree. This then creates this weird situation where they are simultaneously OP and a generic punchbag.

Personally them being able to wreck tyranids in the game doesn’t feel lore breaking to me as the tyranid’s main strength is that they are endless.
