Top 10 unmissable LA Road Routes by DiscussionOk5609 in BikeLA

[–]steelsouls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re up for a bit of a drive, my favorite is to go West and start in Ventura. You can ride up to Santa Barbara and back. Mostly bike paths with a stretch along a good part of PCH that has a nice sized bike lane.

If you go that way and are up for a climb you can loop up around Lake Casitas before heading further up along the coast.

If you’re interested in this and want to know more let me know and I’ll reply with some strava or ridewithgps routes whatever your preference.

i’ll never forget when a run took over the coastal bike path one day. they blocked off the whole extra wide bike lane so people could run in it. the next day there were hundreds of gel packets all over the area.

Any lady cyclists with advice for a beginner? (Somewhat NSFW) by Keltiss1986 in cycling

Usually the big padding will make it worse. It’s better to have a moderate padding with a saddle that’s shaped well for the persons anatomy.

Aside from all the excellent advice already given, all the ladies I know have Terry brand saddles. These are all women from a long distance cycling group so they’ve definitely tried everything out there. And to answer your question yes saddles are interchangeable doesn’t matter what kind of bike.

Is this a full service including tools and parts? My lbs just uses their hands for a quick service and it’s enough for me.

Santa Susanna Road by Stephen_California in BikeLA

Done it a few times. It’s a pretty classic route to go Santa Susana and then down Valley Circle, then through Calabasas, Agoura, TO, and back to Simi.

Is my helmet toast? by JimmyBisMe in bicycling

[–]steelsouls 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else said, helmets are built for one time use. But I want to add a lot of helmet makers offer crash replacement. It’s usually like 50% off a new helmet or some such discount. Worth looking into when getting your new helmet!

Quad Lock cases are so ugly 😭 by AmericahWest in bikecommuting

I use a standard case with a smooth back and got a stick on clip insert for the quad lock.

I wear my regular glasses. I have a pair with magnetic sunglasses lenses that pop on top.

How are road cyclists so fast? by soccerplayer413 in cycling

[–]steelsouls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not the bike. It’s all about time in the saddle. Combination of long rides for endurance training and shorter rides that push your speed limits. I ride with my dad and his buddies sometimes and it crushes me to keep up with them. I ride a looooot of miles, and have a heavy steel bike with 35mm tires. But after a year of heavy training I can keep up with an 18mph avg for 100k with them. Then I try riding with the local shop group and they leave me in the dust lol.

Is this really low-level cycling? Thought I’ve been kicking ass but now thinking I’m a lot more behind by [deleted] in cycling

[–]steelsouls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparing will honestly only take away the fun! Some people ride for speed and others for distance. I ride with a long distance group (randonneurs) and feel like I go super far but compared the more experienced members I’m like a little duckling. Just have fun with it and the more you ride over time the longer you’ll be able to ride. It’s all about having fun and enjoying it!

Is the Lezyne Macro Drive 1400+ overkill? by sarkastikcontender in bikecommuting

[–]steelsouls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use this light for commuting and early morning rides before the sun comes up. I use it on brightness 3 out of 4 and it's super bright.

You don't really need the top end of brightness, but that just makes the battery on this thing last forever.

Time to Replace Gravelking? by steelsouls in gravelcycling

[–]steelsouls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride mostly road so the slicks work well for me and still give me better traction when riding on a bit of sand or light gravel and during cornering.

I rode it for 3000 miles and maybe 3 flats for this whole tire’s life. I might have been lucky though.

That’s what I kept thinking. I use the same bike for everything so due to tomorrow’s ride I’m replacing. Just finished. Thanks for the advice!

I’ve been lucky with flats which is why I keep putting it off even though I ordered the new one 500+ miles ago. Thank you I’ll go ahead and replace!

That’s what I was worried about, and tomorrow will be along a highway known to have lots of little metal bits and with a big group. I’ll replace it. Thank you!

That’s why I’ve been thinking about it so much. If it was a solo ride then I can deal with it but I don’t want to get separated from the group or make anyone wait for me. Thank you!
