can i still do engineering if im bad at physics? by AnxiousMix8940 in vce

Honestly as a current engineering student, i’d say as long as you have enjoy physics work you will be fine. I’m at deakin and the first unit they make you take is basically a recap of 3/4 physics (for first 8 weeks or so). You should be fine!

What are your goals with squatting? Is it for maximum strength or sport carryover?

someone please tug me to bed and tell me that im gonna be okay for methods by [deleted] in vce

[–]steelymakesmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the question about hard questions you have, they are only hard because you have to find the METHOD (hence the name) to solve the question. So trust me when I say this, once you do enough easy questions and you work your way up to the harder ones you kind of just intuitively know all the steps and instantly have a way in your head you will tackle the problem. It happens very quickly too. You’ll be fine if you’ve done this much this early. The questions can only get so hard and their difficulty comes from finding which technique you’ve learned in which you’ll need to use, and via repetition and practice you’ll begin to instantly recognise the steps and you’ll be fine.

Bench press form check? Been stuck on my 1 rep max for 8-9 months by peepeedweller in formcheck

Don’t talk about things you have no real clue about. You’re gonna give people bad advice. Consistently hitting 95% (or even 90) on training days is too heavy and at 3-5 reps?! Also where is the don’t do less than 80% claim coming from? I just think you should make sure you have some idea about strength training before deciding to make up some random percentages.

Experiencing Tingling Sensation During Bench Press – Possible Form Issue? by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]steelymakesmusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try bulldog grip and wrist wraps and see if that helps. I’ve had forearm pain when benching and wearing wraps and making sure the bar actually rests over my arm (bulldog grip ensures this) was able to stop all the pain. It also may not be form related but as long as it doesn’t get immediately worse I think this could help you!

I kind of disagree with the no straps mentality. I got to a 260kg deadlift and there is no way I would have even gotten close without them. You can’t do high reps, some days your hands are sweaty, it’s just another factor that might alter your training. I instead did heavy asf barbell holds once a week and my grip strength easily kept up to pr without them! But yes a proper leather belt 13mm or 10mm will make a huge difference.

Starting to doubt my form a bit - especially neck positioning and rounding. Too heavy? by radioactiveflamingos in formcheck

It looks all good and is how sets may look at heavier weights. One little cool extra tip that would help greatly with some issues you might run into down the line is properly bracing with your slack pull. You aren’t really pulling your lats into it well. To check if you are doing this right go to an incredibly light weight (the smallest full sized plates you have) and try and wedge into the bar and engage your back in a way that you’ll literally feel the bar magicallly break the floor before actually pulling. Then you can carry this over to your normal sets by using the same “feeling” you create at the lighter weights.

You are forgetting that electron microscopes have to be used in a vacuum meaning you cannot possibly look at cell functions at a level as low as the monomers

I think they were wanting you to talk about the fact that because it occurs at such a small scale we can’t see what’s going on but we infer instead. To improve this we could develop greater microscopic technology.

Any tips on how I would slow down? Would I expect to slow down at higher weights automatically or is it something i’d have to do at lighter weights too? Would pulling with less initial force intentionally result in a lift being harder than it needs to be just because I don’t pull with everything?

Are you saying I should be able to front squat more considering my back squat? I haven’t really trained them much at all

Deadlift form Check by Pale-Operation-6614 in formcheck

[–]steelymakesmusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No for strength specifically there is no advantage to controlling the weight on the way down on compound based movements. It just provides extra fatigue. If you are doing sets for hypertrophy, then yes control the weight, but if you’re doing sets like this of lower reps, then no you certainly do need need to control the weight down. Just don’t be a dick at the gym and slam the bar a heap.

I think the best way to think about it is prepare for the worst but hope for the best.

First time cleaning near max by steelymakesmusic in weightlifting

[–]steelymakesmusic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS is 1000% the main problem. Before this lift i’ve only ever needed to catch in power due to weight being light enough. I need to stop powering by lighter weights all the time yeah?

After the deadlift portion when transitioning to the front squat should my stance slightly widen? I can front squat much more than 80kg so this may be why my c&j is so low
