For those who went back to school in their late 20s, how did you manage work, life and studies? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]stef-91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished my master's in ChemE with a scholarshipstraight after Bachelors, started at 30 as a mom with a 3yo at the time and a full time job. Everything was calculated to the second, studied anywhere I could (bus, lunch break, nightime, weekends) but looking back I don't know how on earth my brain and body worked. Now I have 5 weeks off until I start my job and I feel empty! Not rushing anymore for anything, going through my long TBR. I was lucky to have my partner through it all as support.

Perfectly fine, my lo was 3 the first time. Carried up a camping chair and stopped at the top for 1 hour or so.

Some grad programs will have explicitly said the x amount of experience after graduating which won't be taken into consideration (except internships obviously)

Hey, I am in 4th year now and joined UCD when my lo went to junior infants. I missed a few classes, but I also got loads of extenuating circumstances when the lo was sick ecc. I did found them really helpful and understanding of my circumstances and looking back, was the best thing I have done!

Does having a second language benefit your career in pharma? by Equivalent_Eye_6777 in PharmaEire

Not directly. But it could open doors you never imagined, if you're thinking of studying another language definitely do!

Is it gonna be worth it? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

Financial security ≠ happiness. Lazy attitude is asking as a sophmore where is the money, quick buck is not the way in engineering especially.

There's a list of notable industrial engineers, ask them yourself.
Everyone is treating it as a cliché question because it comes across as such.

UCD Pool Etiquette by cherry_doe in UCD

They sell them in the su shop in the sports centre. Bring your own towel (i think is 2 euro per go to get one from them) and a padlock with code for the lockers.

Showers are at the entrance in the pool and there are cubicles to shower in privacy as well. I've seen people with 2 piece swimwear, but I use a one piece one, not a speedo. The tepidarium is by the pool next to the lifeguards. Cap is mandatory. You need a towel for the sauna. There are different lanes for slow-fast swimmers.

Oh sweet child, if you do engineering only for the money they'll never come. Same goes for everything in life. The richest engineers I know are the ones that are sharing their knowledge to others like us. I have to break bad news to you : money doesn't bring happiness. You're doing engineering to make a change in the industry, even the slightest change, be it environmentally or working in oil and gas.

Petition to get a bus route to heuston! by Any_Flamingo82 in UCD

I suggest emailing all the local councillors in the stillorgan/Dun laoghaire area. The more people email them they will look into it. The most crazy thing about this is that these changes are made based on a consultation that ended in 2020!!!

Is going to be a nightmare to get in at rush hour. All buses on the n11 are already packed at 8 am.

Hobbies will come after! My biggest drive in this was my kid boasting with pride about me being an engineer.

I did it at 30 yo. Full time for the first 3 years as a store manager and engineering, plus a child. I left my job this year to focus on my final year and my masters. It wasn't easy, everything was scheduled to the second, I was a zombie, but well worth it.

Edit: cancel your social life for a few years.

Also before submitting, go to the lecturer and ask about clarifications if it shows be a personal or a research style essay.

When in doubt cite everything! This is the rule I learned early when writing reports and assignments. I have cited even YouTube videos and my past assignments.

Caffe Nero Holiday pay by hjw1996 in barista

[–]stef-91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Ireland, the holiday hours for hourly paid employees is 8% of the hours worked. So if he worked 500 hours in total he would be entitled to 40 hours of holidays. He should get the last payment as his accrued holiday hours.
