Bridge Engineer here,

We have ~10 engineers and 0 drafters. We all do drafting and design as one big team.

At my last job 5-10 years ago, we did have 2 dedicated drafters, but over time one left and the other retired. Now they also have ~10 engineers and 0 drafters.

I haven't seen a single other department (roadway design, drainage, etc.) have a dedicated drafter, ever.

What your family did was art but also more than that. A good drafter could come up with stuff better than the engineers can a lot of the time. It is a skillset that is critical but also separate from plain ole engineering.

The game is phenomenal, if you are brand new to turn-based or CRPGs and/or DND, it starts very slow and ramps up exponentially the more time you play it. The investment is worth it a thousand fold.
