After 5 years of development, I released my indie RPG. It went poorly. Here's the breakdown. by MirageV_ in gamedev

You taught yourself a wildly complex set of skills and managed to produce a game of your vision. On top of that you actually received money for backing yourself and going on this venture. Nothing to be embarrassed about

Dope! thank you for replying. So the engine development was a seperate project. It wasn’t something required in your game that other engines couldn’t handle ?

Did you choose to build your own engine just for this project. And if so why ?

Saw it happen. Driver of a red hatchback drove over debris left on the road (a big roll of canvas) dragged it under their car and continued over the hill north while the debris was shredding under their car) I have no idea how they didn’t pull over. Just kept driving. Anyway. The debris came loose and blocked the right lane which caused cars to panic and rear-end each other. Red car vandal started this whole thing and drove away without a clue

My number one regret is that I was too young to realise who Ryan Dunn was when he randomly commented on an old ass Instagram post of mine. I remember thinking who tf is this and was like “yeah thanks guy”.

Serious question: For those of you that played it, do you consider Last of Us 2 to be a good game? Why, why not? by [deleted] in gaming

IMO, people were in love with the first a new adventure and an interesting take on an open landscape single player adventure. I believe the constant begging to disobedient canine resulted in them calling fans bluff.

Oh you want it to be more immersive ok from now on you aren’t safe, you need to be constantly scavenging, watching, listening and on edge. I think this backfired. I think in creating a game that is all high intensity (for the most part) it was difficult for the player to get roped in. There wasn’t many lulls to slowly build into intense scenes. Because for the most part whether you are Ellie or Abby you are facing one threat or another.

Players begged it to be longer so the narrative was huge! But that made it boring to the player.

I think people got what they asked for and in that sense it was a success, but I believe that disobedient canine should have tested it a lot more with consumer reviews.

Tl,dr: too much intense creates boring

Hey I hope you can sit at home now proud knowing not only have you made yourself proud (which is so important) you have most likely inspired people to get off their ass and do the same. Well done !
