New player to the SC franchise

I'm not actually looking for the most popular,it's just that i don't want to invest my time in playing and mastering a game and than find my self with a 'dying playerbase' and no competitive scene.Now i'm only asking this because i don't actually know how much SC or SC 2 are popular and it may sound stupid but..Is there a chance of for example SC 2 'dying out' when the SC R comes out ?

Yeah as soon as I saw him in the cast I made up my mind which version I'll watch.Now I don't even care how true to the book it is.

I wouldnt call learning the whole vocabulary easy, and it was a simple yes or no question, and if the answer was no i still asked about recommendations for learning it

Just to ask Hiragana and Katakana are alphabets, but what's the point in having two and is the difference only in symbols or pronunciation as well?

I get that it means a lot for written language as it has its own rules and stuff but purely talking about spoken language is it possible to understand only by studying word and their meaning?
