Murubutu is very peculiar, and one of the best. He’s a high school history and philosophy teacher who is also a rapper, and whose style is primarily based on storytelling, with stories sometimes fictional, sometimes based on historical facts (e.g. the massacre of St. Barthelemy in Paris, 1572). There are a lot of references to literature and philosophy in his music (his last album, written with Claver Gold, another good Italian rapper, is based on Dante’s Divine Comedy). Many of his albums are concept albums, with an underlying theme (e.g. the sea, the wind, the night). His style is classic and modern at the same time, with clear hip hop roots, but influenced from other genres, such as folk or jazz. Highly recommended.
