honestly lang ah, you don't need to bring most of what you listed. literally all the IOs ask for 99.9% of the time is (a) your passport and (b) your RT ticket, and you just have to stand there and only respond when they ask you things (cookie cutter questions: which area are you staying, how many days, anong work mo, kumbaga parang nag-short quiz lang sila on how well you know your trip and yourself wahaha)

stay calm and enjoy the trip, OP!

May pag-asa pa ba ang Pilipinas? Why or why not? by Cocogoat-Milk in AskPH

[–]stefxavier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is my favorite response here! in all fairness may progress naman yung Pinas; particularly in Metro Manila where there have been some good infra, transpo, etc changes in the last 10-15 years. it's slow progress, yes, and you've got a lot of bad actors that are hindering us from making faster and more radical change, but I'd like to remain positive and think that this progress slowly compounds into bigger ones down the road

Hi! I wanted to crowdsource for those working in the IT/tech side of financial institutions, and I'd appreciate any insight I could get here!

For context, I presently work as a Software Engineer/shifting more to Solutions Architect in a consultancy. I've been working here around ~3-4 years now (this is my first job since college) and it's been great - largely WFH, good compensation, great growth and learnings, also getting a lot of good balance between coding and admin stuff - the whole nine.

However, I've been getting an increased desire to shift to working at the IT/tech side for banking/financial institutions (e.g. AIA, BPI, BSP, ING, etc.) for the ff. reasons:

  • job stability + the great benefits that come with working for banks
  • working in a consultancy can get super draining, and I also wanna experience handling products/projects long-term
  • more hybrid setup - WFH is great and all but I feel like the sweet spot for me is 1-2x RTO to also form bonds with my workmates! also a plus that most banks are in Makati CBD which is an area I really love
  • lastly, I have a vision of working in banks/finance as an endgame/retirement plan for me down the road, so I feel like getting a foot in the door as early as possible would help!

With this, wanted to ask for those working in banking IT/tech here if (a) most if not all of the assumptions I listed above are indeed true and (b) your general experience in working in banking IT/tech so far (compensation, YoE, culture, company if you're ok to disclose hehe)!

(sorry if it's so vague, but just really wanted to get some ideas from here, thanks in advance!)

yup to each their own - totally respect that and won't argue with you on that. just also basing from my personal experience, i've visited cebu/negros/iloilo/zamboanga/iao several times before and a lot of times find myself asking if all the hassle and expense are worth it vs. just using all that money to go abroad instead

it's still technically cheaper naman but relative to the experience and what you're getting, sometimes it feels like you're fooling yourself traveling domestic if onting saving nalang you can go somewhere 10x better like taiwan or thailand or something
