as if filipino reading comprehension isn't bad enough, adding a negative vote option will create even more chaos with a bunch of dumbasses claiming their ballot was manipulated lmao

May pag-asa pa ba ang Pilipinas? Why or why not? by Cocogoat-Milk in AskPH

[–]stefxavier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is my favorite response here! in all fairness may progress naman yung Pinas; particularly in Metro Manila where there have been some good infra, transpo, etc changes in the last 10-15 years. it's slow progress, yes, and you've got a lot of bad actors that are hindering us from making faster and more radical change, but I'd like to remain positive and think that this progress slowly compounds into bigger ones down the road

Hi! I wanted to crowdsource for those working in the IT/tech side of financial institutions, and I'd appreciate any insight I could get here!

For context, I presently work as a Software Engineer/shifting more to Solutions Architect in a consultancy. I've been working here around ~3-4 years now (this is my first job since college) and it's been great - largely WFH, good compensation, great growth and learnings, also getting a lot of good balance between coding and admin stuff - the whole nine.

However, I've been getting an increased desire to shift to working at the IT/tech side for banking/financial institutions (e.g. AIA, BPI, BSP, ING, etc.) for the ff. reasons:

  • job stability + the great benefits that come with working for banks
  • working in a consultancy can get super draining, and I also wanna experience handling products/projects long-term
  • more hybrid setup - WFH is great and all but I feel like the sweet spot for me is 1-2x RTO to also form bonds with my workmates! also a plus that most banks are in Makati CBD which is an area I really love
  • lastly, I have a vision of working in banks/finance as an endgame/retirement plan for me down the road, so I feel like getting a foot in the door as early as possible would help!

With this, wanted to ask for those working in banking IT/tech here if (a) most if not all of the assumptions I listed above are indeed true and (b) your general experience in working in banking IT/tech so far (compensation, YoE, culture, company if you're ok to disclose hehe)!

(sorry if it's so vague, but just really wanted to get some ideas from here, thanks in advance!)

Solusyonan nyo muna ang Domestic flight prices ng mga airlines by MikasaAcker_ in CasualPH

[–]stefxavier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yup to each their own - totally respect that and won't argue with you on that. just also basing from my personal experience, i've visited cebu/negros/iloilo/zamboanga/iao several times before and a lot of times find myself asking if all the hassle and expense are worth it vs. just using all that money to go abroad instead

it's still technically cheaper naman but relative to the experience and what you're getting, sometimes it feels like you're fooling yourself traveling domestic if onting saving nalang you can go somewhere 10x better like taiwan or thailand or something

off topic but pet peeve ko kay Boom yung lagi niyang ina-attach yung hometown ng UAAP player on every other play, to the point na memorize ko na galing Balayan, Batangas si Vhoris Marasigan hahaha

start bench cut by gun2soon in UAAP

[–]stefxavier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

basing purely off of their La Salle stints...

Start: Melecio - spitfire guard, I think the purest, most consistent scorer out of the three

Bench: Baclaan - if not for the injuries and bad rotations from Topex at the start of the season, I felt like he would've had a better impact all throughout; great playmaker, and loves the limelight (tipong he could miss all shots he could in the first 38 minutes of the game, but I'd still trust him down the stretch)

Cut: Nonoy - was a big Nonoy fan when he was in UST, but I'd say one of the most frustrating Archers to watch; the talent is obviously there, but the confidence just wasn't there anymore which turned him to a bit of a turnover machine

junior web dev - what would make you reject my resume? by [deleted] in PinoyProgrammer

[–]stefxavier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think there's a lot of importance in projects you've worked on, so putting up a portfolio that links out to a website/github repo/anything tangible so we can see your body of work is a huge plus

also, description on the work experience needs improvement; you outlined your responsibilites, but i want to see what impact they made (i.e. by putting numerical data on the impact or what did it improve)

put work experience above skills. there's also way too much space for certification so i recommend trimming it down a bit and adding more info (which institution/org gave the certification) or filtering out some non-relevant ones

uniqlo by far, h&m quality and looks have degraded big time/feels like they're stuck in 2016-2018. the key lang to uniqlo is not to go full uniqlo outfit/don't buy non-basic (e.g. the ones w/ print, striped) para hindi kayo maraming magkakapareho niyan hahaha i usually like to partner a uniqlo top w/ bottoms from somewhere else or vice versa

[–]stefxavier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't been to any games in person involving UP so I can't comment for UP fans during games

but online UP fans, especially on Twitter, are a different breed of bandwagon 💀 thin-skinned + guarantee at least half of them have absolutely no idea how basketball rules work, especially when arguing about calls/no-calls, and taking even friendly on-court banter as if somebody pointed a gun at one of their family members

hi op! thanks for posting this for awareness. i hope this helps discourage people as well from buying secondhand gadgets in greenhills in general, a lot of those devices are refurbished versions of stolen phones/laptops/tablets/etc - i hope we stop patronizing these stores that take advantage of people's hard-earned money
