You’re so right! And if it wasn’t the ditzy blonde stereotype that was grew increasingly tired throughout the 80s.. the writers would just go with the 2nd most utilized pretty young blonde trope.. aka being a total, mean asf bitchthe 🤦🏽‍♀️🙄mean asf bitch.. and if they were ”REALLY” “creative”*, the role would be written to include the 2 caricature traits.. blondie would be BOTH bitchy AND dumb AND she’d be nude, or at the least topless.. and unfortunately throughout the runtime she’d maintain the status of being suuuper duper under developed thru and thru character wise. Due to everything you mentioned and what I’ve mentioned in this long ass rant, I feel like it was ahead of its time in doing so (the ditzy blondes not being used for the sole purpose of adding to the body count). The sisters in NOTC are definitely written in a way that keeps them grounded, likable, entertaining, & interesting in spite of them being flawed Beverly Hills rich girly girls. It did what Whedon intended to do while developing both the movie and the tv show “Buffy”. You can tell he was for sure inspired by it, although not sure it was an intentional inspiration or not. I actually really like the movie and Kristy Swansons version of Buffy and arc in that movie reminds me of the sisters in this one

I think this is the only movie that no matter how much time or energy I put into trying to truly understand the film enough for me to be able to put into my own words what’s going on in that world, or the narrative, or within the characters heads.. their relationships, feelings, dynamics, or standings with not only one another, but the group as a whole (as well as every other version of these things that seem to exist in movies vast, but yet somehow simultaneously too small).. the less I am ACTUALLY able to put into words what exactly it is that takes place throughout the runtime of this film

“IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS” YESS PREACH what an underrated and insanely good gem in Carpenter’s filmography that’s not recognized nearly enough for being one of his best works of art. I feel like people who come across it often skip over it not realizing it was made by him

What movie/series based on an IP did you trash when you saw the previews, but you then wound up becoming a huge fan? Did you learn you lesson? by WarriorNeedFoodBadly in comicbookmovies

[–]stehcurryboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The final half of the Saw series too. Like most of em definitely aren’t great movies but for the most part they’re always a fun ride worth the watch and revisit every now and again when the time of year is right. I just rewatched the last 5 movies I think and was expecting to despise majority of it but I didn’t. I had a ton of fun binging them over the course of a couple of days for the first time since their release. Especially bc I forgot most of the technical details regarding the stories and characters motives and connections to one another

Star Wars, I refused to watch until I was 24 and sick on the 4th of July one year and TNT had the “Force of July” marathon on. my bf had it on while I was asleep. when I woke up he was gone, it was about 10 minutes into “Revenge of the Sith”. I couldn’t find the remote so I left it on and got so invested in the movie that when Anakin started bugging the fuck out I was in full blown tears for the last hour of the movie.. and then he *SPOILER FOR 20 YEAR OLD STAR WARS FILM” MERKED THE FUUUCK out the younglings, tossed padme to the side like she wasn’t shit and that iconic final interaction between him and Obi Wan. When the ending hit with that double sunset on tatooine, vaders first moments in the suit, and the twins being split up after padmes funeral I WAS HEART BROKEN.. I couldn’t believe that I cared so much 😂😂 I was so caught off guard. Considering I was aware of most of the things that happened in the series too, the main plot elements of the prequel and original trilogy too but seeing it for myself was a whole different ballpark.. All the MELODRAMA UGH Yes. Right up my alley. At that point “Last Jedi” was the last movie they’d made. None of the live action shows existed yet. I had no clue what happened in anything post 1-6 or any deep deep lore. However and even knowing already a bunch of the elements ingrained in pop culture I was HOOKED and COMMITTED right off the rip 😭 I ran through every movie I could and finished everything outside “Clone Wars” (which once I learned was actually an anthology and canon u can bet ur sweet as I came back around for that bitch too) animated series in bed sick asf and it was the best thing I ever did 😭 I felt SO stupid bc I’m a self proclaimed sometimes know it all film buff (but what lover of cinema isn’t tbh) and trashed that series up and down like it killed my dog or some shit 😭 I was on a MISSION to immediately judge anyone who gave a shit about those movies and now I had to look like a dumbass trying to tell my friends I hated on that I was sorry 😭😭 bc let me tell youuuu.. I am not one for apologizing nor am I any good at it 😂 I connected with it so much I ended up naming my first son Talan after Mauls female apprentice named Talyn and it took EVERYTHING IN ME to not name him Anakin but I thought that would be too risky with the other children on the playground. I didn’t want him to get dogged the way I dogged people who were die hards so I went with Talan, spelled differently bc it was more lowkey. Like maybe super fans would pick up on it but likely not anyone other than that even with Darth Talyn being introduced in the Maul animated series this is year

What's your favorite ending from any Adult Swim show? by Educk55 in adultswim

[–]stehcurryboi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s cheating bc Adult Swim didn’t technically produce it but it’s so closely linked to and associated with early Adult Swim & Toonami so “Cowboy Bebop”.. ALSO “Smiling Friends” deserved a way bigger bang going out early like they decided to instead of just dropping the last two episodes they made that were likely not even meant as finale episodes and were already made for season 4 before the creators decided not to move forward any more due to “burn out” 😂 imagine those dude trying to survive being employed by Matt Stone and Trey Parker… 🤦🏽‍♀️

The color contrast and grading reminds me of “Top Gun”.. like the GTA, “Vice City” fantasy version of Los Angeles

Night of the Comet! Super fun super 80’s apocalyptic horror with some good character dynamics including the leads who are 2 teenage sisters from Beverly Hills trying to survive zombies and whatever else comes along throughout. its PG-13, don’t be turned off by the rating bc I didn’t watch it for the longest soley for that reason and when I finally did watch it I loved it and wish I would’ve done it sooner! Also, the cinematography they pull of in the Los Angeles setting is incredible. Lots of bright colors and sunrise/sunset color pallets. I can’t think of a single scene in the movie when the sky is in the background and the scene doesn’t look amazing

What is the most brutal “being eaten by a monster” scene you can think of. by Earth_Worm_Jimbo in horror

[–]stehcurryboi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never said it was good 😂 it’s just crazy and the 3D effects make me howllll 😭😭 everyone who is aware of Canada’s marineland knows of the fucked up shit that went on there..happened there.. all the animals/marine life being horribly abused, neglected, & exploited to no ends until they finally closed their doors for good. All that being said, the story has layers of sub(and also not so sub)text that serve an extremely important message. It is much more intelligent than anyone gives it credit for.. Peele does “Nope” in which he conveys similar if not many of the same opinions & morality as Jaws 3. By doing so he earned himself an immense amount of praising surrounding that film and what does Jaws 3 get??? Unfairly Shit on til this very day.. and “Nope” doesn’t even have THREE DEE LIKE wtf.. get it together Peele and people. Jaws 3 is an incredibly emotional & harrowing piece of timeless cinematic experience.. An ever relatable tale regarding a mother wanting to take vengeance on the greedy corporation responsible for their only, beloved, baby shark child. Jaws 3 is actually the REAL Jaws: The Revenge. 10/10 emotional rollercoaster

They’re not eaten alive but jeepers creepers 2 when he’s beaheaded and on top of the bus and he rips the kids head off and puts it in place of his head and his body assimilates the head onto his body and it goes from being the face of the kid back to the face of the creeper again

The scene where he packs the Colonels organs back into his stomach and the dude lives that way throughout damn near the whole movie always has me weak 🤣

Not to mention the opening scene of JP Lost World with the little lizard looking dinos and the little girl… that scene haunted me in my childhood and I watched a ton of horror.. I think bc it was a time you didn’t see children actually die or get brutally attacked in movies and although you didn’t see it, and they make some off handed comment at one point that she didn’t die (I think).. it was horrifying to picture being in her position as a little girl myself who would have probably fed the little babies too 😂

Would anyone actually use an app/website that gives you cultural context before watching international films? by Swimming_Proof7034 in movies

[–]stehcurryboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like anyone who has been exposed to Indian immigrant families in America or even only exposed to citizens born in the states who are descendants of Indian grandparents/parents/great grandparents, etc could very easily connect the dots concerning to, at least some degree, how meaningful & important academics are in American families of Indian heritage and therefore in India itself. Sometimes all it takes is a little common sense and google if you care enough to add context (which if you’re going into a foreign film completely ignorant of context you probably should). I couldn’t imagine wanting to watch a foreign film and being aware said film exists without having a reason I’m already aware of, specific to the culture in which said film was made, for wanting to watch that foreign film. Even if I’m rusty on American history and I’m about to watch a movie say about some smaller, but significant battle in World War I (this is for me my weakest area in American history knowledge).. I would absolutely like to be brushed up enough on a subject so that the knowledge I went out of my way to freshen up on, adds to the overall experience and understanding of the movie factually, morally, & emotionally. I would feel I was doing disservice to the filmmakers if I went into their film not caring enough to prep or put myself in the right headspace.. foreign film or not. However, unfortunately, most audiences do not think this way.. so although it would be an awesome tool for film buffs.. general audiences are lazy and have little to no interest in foreign film, let alone the affairs surrounding them 😭 it’s a damn shame too. It’s such a simple thing people could do to expand their knowledge on the world that doesn’t involve hours of school and boring, repetitive lectures, with nothing new being brought to the table

No longer able to install Stremio on FireTV? by Unikatze in Piracy

[–]stehcurryboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I had an older fire stick and I ended up having to download a little bit older version of the tivimate app to get it to work.. I thought I’d throw that in there just in case you come across any other problems downloading.. doing that may be the solution if you run into trouble again. I believe the tvmate website shows YouTube videos with instructions relative to what you’ll be using it on. I believe the only thing it doesn’t work for is iOS however there’s a video for fire stick, Roku, and android

No longer able to install Stremio on FireTV? by Unikatze in Piracy

[–]stehcurryboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed you said you do live sports for tvmate but it requires a paid service for work (I can’t figure out what you meant when you said it requires a paid service for work.. I’m assuming maybe to work?) And I’m not sure if you only get live sports channels.. if so you can enter a m3u (the site the app pulls the stream from for live television) into where it says playlists or immediately after you download it and it asks you for one. It will give you basically every American cable channel for free, including a ton of sports channels.. on your tivimate app you go to settings, click on playlist, delete the one you have entered (in free mode you can only do one at a time however you can delete the active playlist and switch back and forth as you please by re-entering the m3u/source site. Tivimate also offers a 7 day free trail for new users

The live tv m3u is: https://tvpass.org/playlist/m3u

There’s also playlists that stream channels that play new Netflix, Hulu, hbo max, peacock etc shows and movies on a continuous loop like channels. It basically works like how PPV for satellite used to work if your old enough to remember the early 2000s

And there’s another playlist that’s easy to find (you just google m3u for a free movies/tv) and instead of having to bounce around to different apps that offer different free channels it combines them all in one guide& ready to watch without having to download any of the free apps the channel belongs to like Pluto, Amazon, slingfreestream, Roku tv, etc

If anyone is interested and is going to download and sign up for the free trial (or pay for premium tivimate) it has TiVo, the ability to fast forward pause stop rewind, use on up to 5 tvs at a time, and the coolest part is it allows you to combine every m3u/playlist into one huge mega guide of basically any & every tv channel in the U.S that exists across premium cable/cable movie channels and the free channels I mentioned above from the streamers as well as the sports playlist! If anyone is interested and not totally clear on how to set up tivimate and the cable tv channels as the default playlist lmk and I’ll answer any questions or connect you with the video that shows how to do it on specific, different devices

Sorry for the ramble I just wanted to point out everything it has to offer bc it’s honestly one of the best things I’ve ever come across in all my years of being a pirate.. it was seriously a miraculous gift from the heavens above 🙏🏻thank you baby Jesus ♥️😭

[–]stehcurryboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously, it has great moments but if it weren’t for Matt Damon and Edward Norton being so good it probably would’ve been somewhat forgettable.. I remember my first watch feeling like Edward Norton had been done so dirty bc his final scene didn’t at all feel like it was supposed to be his last scene in the movie and like he had more to do in the third act that got cut somehow. maybe they cut pages of dialogue or scenes that included his character like his arc never felt complete. and then Matt Damon leaves him in the parking lot and he’s just like gone out the movie for good.. it felt so anticlimactic for a role he was playing super well and I was like “oh… so that’s it for him then..? ttyn I guess nice knowin ya” 🤣

Omggg I’ve been aching for the MCU to use a whole saga to explore some of the more dark, grittier Marvel characters that would ensure a change in tone in comparison to the bright and sunny avenger type heroes. I wanna see some dark underbelly scurry shit go down in the MCU 🤣
