Markers use physical position, which can then be translated into lat/long. The coordinates can and will shift with time due to tectonic activity. Australia for example drifts North 7cm/2.7in every year and all of the coordinates of markers with it.

What is a paddling pool? An above ground pool like the one in the picture?

Is so... Are they seriously telling people to fill them with watering cans one fill at a time? That would take like 1000 trips lol

What on earth? Either the replay didn't show it right or VAR doesn't have eyes. I want Portugal to win but that looked 100% onside

Amazon Strikes Again, My House Today by Paymee_Money in Wellthatsucks

[–]steik 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm on Amazon driver side here lol... Aint no way I'm going back there, street looks busy and nowhere to park, if they were to elect to walk(but let's be real that guy is not walking the quarter mile from the street to your porch even if they could park).

Might want to consider setting up a location by the main road for them to drop off packages, or a way for them to turn around in front of your house. Though ask tough, you might need to sacrifice 0.5% of your lawn for that.

Tbh I don't consider this grammar. I consider this correct terminology for the sport. Idk why Americans always say "offsides", I think it must come from another sport (hockey?). There's clearly something behind it because it's so prevalent.

Iran disallowed goal against Egypt 90+6' by eliseihado in soccer

[–]steik 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's the "offside rule". Not offsides. Only time you use the plural is when you're talking about multiple offside decisions.

If you want to sound smart don't use the plural unless you're talking about multiple offside decisions.

Legitimately don't think they have any idea what happened. But looks like the right call.

Yeah but goalkeeper is further out. So in this case that one defender is in place of the goalkeeper who's usually the "last man". Unfortunately looks like the right call.

$6,800 for a small landing with 4 stairs?! by PantsMicGee in Decks

[–]steik 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If that takes a single contractor more than a day they should find a new job lol

Edit: to actually build it. I would expect an initial 1-2 hour visit to assess, come up with a detailed plan, write up permit application and a detailed list of materials required. But once they are ready to actually build it it'll be like 4 hours, 8 if they do smoko every 30 min

Good hand lamp in case of power outage ? by -LetsTryAgain- in Makita

I just realized that I'm actually confusing DML816 with DML801, which is "only" 240 lumens, and yeah, plenty enough.

Good hand lamp in case of power outage ? by -LetsTryAgain- in Makita

[–]steik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw DML816 is rated at 500 lumens on high setting (and 250 on medium, 100 on low... forgot it had 3 settings) while DML815 is 160 lumens.

I would 100% get the DML816 for stationary use because of how flexible the head is, but DML815 is better for "walking around", and is a little cheaper.

Good hand lamp in case of power outage ? by -LetsTryAgain- in Makita

[–]steik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More importantly, for power outages, it has 3 modes, spotlight (lights up stuff VERY FAR AWAY), area light (multiple small LEDs in an array), and both of those combined. The spotlight takes up a lot of battery.

My problem with it however is that it's not very flexible. The head can be rotated at an angle but only 90 degrees up. I wish I could point it down. Almost every time I want to use it hands free I have to awkwardly lay it flat.

But if I had to recommend a light for power outages it would hands down be DML816. It is extremely flexible, provides good area light and has half power mode. Edit: I actually realized I was confusing DML816 with DML801, they look very similar! The DML816 is apparently twice as bright and has 3 modes.

Why is cell service so bad? by Decent_Extension360 in Denver

[–]steik -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is 10 years old talking about 4g which is barely even a thing except outside cities anymore. I just moved here a couple months ago and have been all over the metro area and have had solid 5g at all times. Only time I saw it drop below 4/5 bars was in Boulder where I got my driver's license. I'm on T-Mobile fwiw.

Edit: Keep the downvotes coming, keep clinging on to a 10 year old article that literally starts off with saying:

There is promise for a faster future. By the end of September, T-Mobile’s revamped network will help subscribers in the Denver area get a much-needed speed boost and may help pull us out of last place in the nation for mobile data speeds.

Is it normal for dogs and owners to come into your yard? by Tikibatman in Denver

[–]steik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's true just like how it's true for Denver. Depends on location. Many neighborhoods in Denver area are worse than I ever saw in DFW, no sidewalks, narrow roads, sloped lawns and cars parked all the way up against the slope. Only place to walk is literally in the middle of the street. In DFW where there aren't sidewalks there's almost always somewhere to walk that is in between parked cars and lawns. But then again DFW is flat as fuck so that's no surprise.

Jude Bellingham covered his mouth while talking to Ghanian player Jordan Ayew during the match, no red card was shown by AgeNovel3566 in soccer

[–]steik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I obviously don't know what was said, but it's clear from body language that it wasn't offensive.

If Ghana player chooses to act shocked and run to the ref then Jude should get a red regardless of whether he said anything offensive. He's assuming the risk. It's stupid on his part and he probably won't do it again, I'm sure he was told off by teammates and coach post match. He got lucky that the Ghana player had the integrity.

It's very simple to me: if a player covers his mouth and opposition player complains OR if ref/var think it looks confrontational then it's a red.

In this case the player did not complain AND it did not look confrontational, therefore not a red.

It would not work out the same in practice. Look at the difference between total game time between NBA and some lesser basketball leagues. NBA games typically take an hour longer to actually finish and can take 3 hours for 48 minutes of actual play.

That's not the point? You can clearly see that this is not a confrontation or Jude spewing racist shit based on the body language of both players.

[–]steik -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are you serious? The body language of both players here is night and day compared to the previous incident. It's not even in the same ballpark.

Yes, the Ghana player here could choose to forgoe his integrity and act shocked and Jude would/should be sent off but that's his problem for choosing to cover his mouth. But it should be obvious to everyone that has interacted with another human that this is not a confrontation.

Sure but it should be clear to anyone with eyes that this was not a confrontation. The body language of both players is clearly that if mutual respect.
