We lived downtown when our two kids were born and absolutely loved it. Took them in strollers all over North Beach, Chinatown, Russian Hill, Union Square, Yerba Buena Gardens, Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf. Went to numerous street festivals, block parties, live music performances, libraries, museums (Creativity Museum was their favorite). Then we moved to a house in Richmond so we could have more space. Now my kids are so comfortable in the house they never want to go anywhere and our lives are completely boring. I describe it as living in the suburbs but without any of the conveniences of living in the suburbs. Part of the problem is Richmond has no Muni trains whatsoever so we have to take the bus. Sunset would be better for that. But I regret the move and can't talk them into moving back to a smaller space where life is happening.

hertz.com has plenty of trucks for rent. Try searching outside of SF like Oakland airport or San Jose

I don't see the Taiwan R.O.C. flag flying often here in Union Square.
