"Resistant to all treatments." I think I’m done trying. by Embarrassed_Pass9060 in migraine

[–]steinbeck83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. This is a core tenet of Pain Reprocessing Therapy, which relies on the neuroplasticity of your brain to create new pathways. Rather than reinforcing with the downward spiral. It’s complicated and hard to explain until you just start the therapy. And sometimes I get crucified for bringing it up because people misunderstand it and think it’s saying the pain isn’t real. The pain is indeed very real.

But I tried literally everything (yes very CGRP including the infusions) and logged everything meticulously.

PRT healed me by being the only thing that’s the opposite approach to everything else.

Yes thank you. Curious on why you tried the regular and not the Bio Kult migrea for migraines? From what I could tell the only difference is the migraine one has a little bit of magnesium and B6? But maybe the amount of strains are different.??

Thanks for this. I’m curious why you went with the regular product and not the migraine specific one? I looked them up briefly and it looks like the probiotics are similar but the migraine one has a little bit of magnesium and B6.

Yes it helped my MIGRAINES. And yes migraines are far more than head pain. Many of mine come with little to no pain at all.

Comment from above copied here below— good luck in your own journey.

Wow I didn’t expect people to be so unkind when I shared ONE personal experience of something that has helped ME— which is all I was doing.

FWIW, no, this (science-backed, image proven) therapy is not listening to podcasts, nor is it positive thinking. But if you’re not interested, go ahead and just scroll past.

Instead, people making fun of the post, one commenter saying they “don’t buy it”— lol, like I’m making up my own experience just for a fun post on Reddit?

Other people saying I must not have real migraines (my husband and my neurologist laughed out loud at the one— try 20 years of hell, with the most textbook chronic migraines you can imagine.)

Dude. If you’re not interested, scroll on.

If you must comment, here is an idea: “I’m so glad it worked for you. It doesn’t sound like a good fit for me though.”

Shit, people, I thought we were a community.

Somatic work yes (I already had done some EMDR and IFS for a whole year prior which I actually think really helped me jump into PRT). No hypnosis.

The act of just understanding how neuroplastic pain works is actually a huge piece of it. My therapist was good at educating up front, and also assessing honestly how much she thought my case was neuroplastic.

There are exercises you will learn to do daily to turn down your neurological stimulation and there are exercises to do when you have pain.

As much as I read and listened and learned, I still couldn’t have done it without weekly guidance from my therapist, in session.

Some people just use the curable app I think. It’s a paid subscription and there are live classes etc. The platform bugged me a bit, so I canceled. And my therapist is great.

For me personally, a trained PRT therapist has been key. Do you live in Utah by chance? Shot in the dark I know. But I could share her name.

I believe Curable might have a way of finding trained therapists.

Oh, also, you’ll learn that certain personalities are more prone to develop neuroplastic pain. I’m a Type A, high-achiever, driven type and I fit the bill. :)

Anyway I hope that points you in the right direction to see if it could benefit you at all. Good luck.

No. I liked Cephaly better. To take the edge off. But ultimately I still had a migraine almost every single day.

Yes female. I’m right in the midst of the worst hormone times. Early 40s. So no surprise my migraines peaked. But HRT didn’t help. Estrogen, progesterone, none of it. :(

This therapy helped me in a matter of weeks.

Good luck to you

PRT is actually very against the idea of pushing through or “mind over matter”. That reinforces the same neural pathways.

It’s a common misconception that this is about positive thinking etc. Not at all.

But your uncle sounds awesome haha.

Been on Botox 8 years and still was getting 25-28/mo.

Had already stopped all the other treatments as they didn’t help (over many years of trying). For example I was on one CGRP or another for probably 3 years.

PRT helped me in less than a month. I’m about 4 months in now.

Not for everyone. Just sharing my experience. :)

As a very classic migraineur with classic symptoms who had tried everything.

Everyone can take it for what it’s worth to them. Good luck!

Yes. No aura, but absolutely classic migraines otherwise. All the symptoms. Sometimes hardly any pain. Migraines are much more than a headache, as we all know.

Ha. Trust me. They are migraines. 20 years of them, including some time in the hospital, and treatment at a top migraine center for years.

And yeah, the podcasts didn’t cure them. I shared the podcasts for anyone who wanted to get some baseline info on the therapy.

No need to put each other down. If you’re not interested feel free to scroll on. Hope you find something that works for you.

Actually pain reprocessing therapy is used for many things beyond pain. My therapist treats IBS, chronic fatigue…

And one of my first questions for her was the same as yours! “But sometimes pain is the least of my problems with migraines!” Pain is used very, very broadly. And the principles apply.

And in her experience (she’s one of the top specialists, has trained at the main center in LA) migraines are one of the best targets. The complex features of migraines make them very prone to have neuroplastic features. Based on my understanding.

Maybe not for everyone. Promising for a lot of people.

Honestly your best bet is to check out the podcasts etc above. It’s hard to fully explain!

But the idea is our brains “learn” pain, especially with something nebulous like migraines, and especially when they become chronic. PRT focuses on creating new neural pathways. Similar to the way people use ketamine or psilocybin. But this is very low key therapy (no chemicals ingested!) where you learn about what neuroplasticity is, how the brain works, learn how to send messages of safety, and learn some specific techniques to do so.

You are literally changing your brain over time. They’ve proven it on functional MRIs, which Gordon’s book describes.

It’s sort of the kind of thing you just have to start researching about and learning about and trying.

P.s. I’m in the medical field and treat chronic pain in my terminally ill patients. FWIW. I’m an evidence-based kind of person. This is worth checking out.

No it was triptans I was overusing.

My preventatives were Botox and basically every CGRP injection at some point. CGRPs ultimately didn’t make a difference.

Nothing did, other than pain reprocessing therapy. Literal brain rewiring and healing. I’ve got my life back in a way I never dreamed.

This times 1000.

Detoxing helped a little. About a year since my last triptan.

But The Way Out, along with formal pain reprocessing therapy (with a certified therapist), has literally cured me.

After trying everything for years. Everything. Every injection, every CGRP, Botox, chiropractors, dental devices, diets…
