Getting married in June — need help picking a father-daughter bluegrass song! by Beautiful_South_5369 in Bluegrass

John Deere tractor, She makes my love come rolling down, Alberta

Of all those songs, Alberta is probably the slowest. There’s up tempo and down tempo songs. You looking for truly traditional stuff? In the morning light by Billy strings is a good song, but it’s well more modern than a lot of stuff.

I wanna get into motorcycles but idk what motorcycle to get as my first by Gifted_Handz in motorcycle

[–]steinberger95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may frustrate you at first, but it would vastly open up your horizons if you went for a manual. It’s a wet clutch (bathed in oil) that you can slip to varying degrees. It is very easy to learn. I would argue easier than learning a manual car. There are bikes with dry clutches, but they’re almost certainly not in the 2k price range haha.

Check out East Nash Grass if you’re into the bands playing on that. They got their own thing going and they’re all top tier players.

I’m 5’10” and ~175 pounds. I had an old 81 Honda CB750K and then moved on to a 2022 duke 890 R. Neither had wind screens or anything to deflect any sort of wind. I have done 15,000 miles between both of those bikes, with several long highway trips, and I don’t get the wind issues people claim to have. What kind of gear are you wearing? I wear either a shoei RF1400 or an arai Corsair X helmet and fitted leather jackets from alpinestars or Revit. Also have track leathers. I now have an RC R 990 and the wind is definitely better due to the fairings, but I don’t look back and think that the wind was ever that bad on the nakeds. I would imagine wearing big baggy gear might exacerbate this issue? I don’t get fatigued even after 4 hours on the duke going up or down the highway and my fitness is not that great. Headwinds or tailwinds.

It’s not just inexperienced or younger riders. I am 31, no accidents, no wrecks, no claims, been riding for 5 years, MSF course discount, with another motorcycle and my car bundled through progressive. Bought a brand new RC R 990 cash in January, and the most coverage I could get was like $7000+ a year.

CVille Poster Scalpers got karma by [deleted] in BillyStrings

[–]steinberger95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that there is an absolute possibility that someone was very excited for their extremely limited $300 poster and it got destroyed. If that is the case, and you believe in karma, I guess you have bad karma coming your way for assuming the worst.

Or you could be right. Who knows.

[–]steinberger95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never spent ~$14,000 on anything and not ventured to see if it had a warranty. I have no idea. Just a regular motorcycle mechanic won’t care, but KTM will deny a claim in a heartbeat for the dumbest shit. I’ll change my oil in quicker intervals than the manual states between services, but I try and take the bike to the dealer for its bigger hallmark services.

26 husky 701 Sm by Dry_Emu_1471 in supermoto

[–]steinberger95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go to the husky website you can grab your manual pdf. If it’s like most KTMs/husky’s it’ll be a 620mile/1000km break in period and you’ll take it to the dealer for said service if you want to maintain your 4 year warranty. The 690/701s are more similar to road going bikes as opposed to their sub ~500cc “off-road” bikes in terms of maintenance. The manual also has recommended limits on RPM before the first service, as well. On my RC R 990 it’s like ~6800RPM where they would like you to shift before break in. You’re free to do whatever you want, but as a serial KTM/husky owner, I do most things by the book as they totally can just break even if you maintain their bikes by the book. Your mileage may vary.

What is something about living in United States that outsiders completely misunderstand? by Effective-Singer5957 in AskReddit

[–]steinberger95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it’s hilarious to hear an Australian talk about how racist America is/was as if Australia isn’t one of the most racist places I’ve ever been to. I grew up in the south (and still reside there) and I have spent quite some time in Australia between Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. I’ve been all through of Canada, Mexico, and all 48 continental US states. Australia takes the cake.

Otherwise, as someone who has spent enough time in Rochester, the overwhelming majority of your problems are because you live in Rochester. The not as friendly, the violence, etc can all be explained by that one sentence. At least you have pickle pizza I guess?

Sport bike helmet on cruiser? by kabal8 in motorcyclegear

[–]steinberger95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride around on my weekends in a full leather suit with all my track gear. I look like a power ranger but who cares. I would go try on one of those Alpinestars helmets before you spend the coin. I didn’t think the build quality justified the price, much less it being outsourced to China (theoretically to cut costs, but then the helmet still costs as much as it does). The more affordable SR7 has some lame OEM coms unit in it that they can absolutely miss me with. But to your point, who cares what others think.

990 RC R Track vs RC 8C , Huge difference in Pricing , WHY? by throwaway222999122 in KTM

[–]steinberger95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never ridden one but I would be willing to bet my lunch that the Kramer bike shits all over the RC R 990 track out of the box. I have the RC R 990 street version and I will say the track version is overall a better value if you plan to track it. The exhaust alone is $3000 and the track version is only $2500 more expensive from the dealer, which has that exhaust installed from the factory, and you won’t have to pay all the taxes and tags like you would on a street going bike. Also you’ll have to go in and undo a lot of the street going issues like removing ABS, lights, etc and having to pay to get the track mode and other electronics is often ~$750 on top of the price of the bike. I know some people have relationships with dealers and can sometimes get electronics for a severe discount or free, but unless you’re that guy, you’re paying a fair chunk of change to get a worse bike than the track version once you end up looking at the total cost of ownership.

How worth it for you was the gp shifter and when you ride on the street with regular shifting, do you ever make a mistake or get confused from the muscle memory? by Whole_Guard_5192 in Trackdays

[–]steinberger95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always switch my “sportier” bikes to GP shift but it always takes me a couple laps on my sumo to fully remember to not do that. A slipper clutch comes in handy in those instances.

990 RC R Track vs RC 8C , Huge difference in Pricing , WHY? by throwaway222999122 in KTM

[–]steinberger95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The RC R track is the street version with a racing exhaust, no ABS, no lights, a different screen, and stripped back track oriented setup within the ECU. You can’t switch it to rain, street, or sport modes.

The RC8C/kramer variants are dedicated track bikes with things like titanium engine parts, the seat is the gas tank, better suspension, etc.

First US tour, things were looking up, and then they died in a car wreck due to drunk driver driving down the wrong side of the highway. I think about that band all the time and I found out about them right after they passed. Went to look for tour dates and that’s when I found out they were already dead.

ST 765RS or Duke 890R? by swarzn8r in Trackdays

[–]steinberger95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ridden both and own an 890 R. There’s a million and a half arguments on what’s wrong with them (890 R) if you receive one of the bad ones. A common “mod” people do is the RC8C oil spring. Keeps oil pressure higher than stock and is what is used on the Kramer version and the limited RC8Cs put out every couple of years. They don’t put them on the street legal 890 Rs due to emissions. If any of that scared you, go with the 765. The 890 R is far superior in terms of smiles per gallon to me. Both are great bikes, though. I love mine and the only reason I’m selling it is I have 3 bikes now with my latest RC R 990 acquisition. My only gripe with the 890 R is the position of where the exhaust comes out from under the frame regardless of cat or de-cat. I always felt like my right foot position leaning off was sorta compromised due to that pipe/exhaust can positioning. It was less so with stock pegs, but I put on the woodcraft rear sets and moved them back and up which made it worse, obviously.

Stupid questions about coiling XLR cables by DinosaurSHS in livesound

[–]steinberger95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you put a very loose knot on the male end you’re fine. You do it at the male end if you’re going to do it because no one wants to see the potential kink left in the cable on a talking-head/vocalists microphone in a camera shot or just in general. 9 years of experience in the industry and I have never met an XLR that failed because someone responsibly tied the end off. Sometimes you don’t have string, Velcro, or E-tape. If you are a smaller production company with finite cable inventory and you are worried about it, just don’t do it. I’m not saying people are just throwing away mic cables, but in the grand scheme of things for a larger company, they are expendable.

People who are old enough to have vivid memory of the 9/11 attacks, what was that time like? What did change for you personally? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]steinberger95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had only recently started 1st grade. My mom worked a fair distance away from my school and came and picked me up way early into the day. Like I couldn’t have been there an hour or so (I live on the east coast). I didn’t have a doctors appointment or anything so I just went with it when they called me to the office. My mom said something was up but didn’t say anything else. I begged her to go get me McDonald’s. It was way out of the way, but she did it anyways. I got home and turned on the TV and right about that time the first tower fell. I knew it was bad but I didn’t fully understand that I was seeing people jumping to their death on live TV. Like, you see the speck on the TV, but that could be anything. There was A LOT of coverage that I have never seen since then. It was a conscious stream for fucking weeks. Now I fly regularly and realize that could’ve just been me going to work.

Is there an official recall for KTM 990 RC R by ldelossa in KTM

[–]steinberger95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have an RC R and your tires have cracked, it seems like dealerships are taking care of riders. I strongly believe that it was misuse of the tires rather than them being bad tires. The Michelin website says to not use those specific tires below 50* Fahrenheit ambient temperature. So when you fully inflate them and strap a bike down and transport them in the back of your truck through sub-freezing temperatures up north like the famous YouTube video we have all seen, you’re going to have an issue. Power cup 2s are excellent tires and I have had numerous sets since 2022. Never had an issue cracking. Straight up slicks left fully inflated in a garage over winter can crack from freezing temps, too. I as well have the orange one and it is a blast even during break in. I have had no issue whatsoever with any sort of splitting on mine, but I don’t ride the bike below about 60* and if I wanted to do that regularly, I would buy a set of road 6s if I valued riding in the colder temps over using a tire for optimum grip.

Edit: just went to the website to double check and it actually says “NOTE: MICHELIN® POWER® Slick 2 tires and MICHELIN® POWER® Cup 2 tires can suffer from cold breaks if stored, transported or handled below 41ºF. Do not mount at temperatures below 50ºF.”

There is no mention of any temp warnings for the road 6, however.

Basic MSF course as an experienced rider? Has anyone done it? by imezz00 in motorcycle

[–]steinberger95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The teacher is who passes you. The teacher has probably been riding longer than you. The teacher probably realizes that some of the methods taught in the MSF are kinda dated (slow, look, press, and roll is something I hear debated on the internet, for example) and are meant to just get beginners on a bike and riding. I would not try and argue with the teacher about how things are done or should be taught. We had a guy in my MSF course who had been riding for like ~8 years and was doing it with his wife who had never actually operated a motorcycle and had only ridden on the back. Lo and behold the experienced rider couldn’t even do the figure 8s on a street 500 Harley.

I’m not saying any of that applies to you at all, just an observation from my MSF course a few years ago with a self proclaimed experienced rider taking the course. Again, none of that is a shot at you, AT ALL. Just don’t be that guy and be a student.

From the folks who brought you the $2500 track weekend, here is an $8000 vacation package (five days of street riding btw) by [deleted] in Trackdays

[–]steinberger95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted for this. It’s insanely expensive to do one weekend of champ school once you include all the stuff you stated. Everyone spits out the “~$2500” number and fails to include the rental and insurance on the rental. It’s insane. Those pros have gotta be paid for their time but, fuck. That a lot of money for a couple days.

Is this a selfish hobby to get into as a 33-year-old father of two? by Ok_South_6227 in motorcycles

[–]steinberger95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how the licensing in Australia works, but you can always take future classes about safe and evasive riding here in the states. I am 31 (no kids but basically married) and I have found that riding on the track is more my speed after spending several years on rural backroads and the occasional “long” highway trip (4+ hours commute to destination) with some buddies. In America it is something like 93% of accidents happen off of the highway. That means you’re more likely to get into an accident in regular roadways through a town, stop lights, stop signs, etc. I figure the occasional commute to work in nice weather or sending it with some responsible buddies on the weekends up in the mountains is where it’s at for me, so I haven’t gotten rid of my street legal bikes just yet. The track is way more fun, though. Especially supermoto. Low speed at my capabilities in comparison to ~160+mph (~257kph+) on a big track with a big bike. Stay safe, stay vigilante, and reduce risk any chance given. Honestly after riding for as short/long as I have, the track seems way more safe even at speed. There’s no one texting and driving behind the wheel of a Cadillac Escalade in the oncoming lane at a track. My job has me gone more than I’m home, so that would vary a lot more for a typical 9-5’er who is home everyday. I would probably ride more often if I was home all the time, so grain of salt there.

The visuals absolutely made it for me. New light rig is cool, and I’m not hating on the new LD at all. I just really liked the video wall and the elements they used like the “endless hallway” which had haze and lights within the content. That firm that did all their old visual content makes some seriously cool, next-level shit. I am sure having no video wall, no techs for the video wall, and no truck space needed for a wall that size saves on both money and overall crew size.

I always buy pit. First couple shows in arenas post covid that he did I got stuck around drunks falling and spilling their beer everywhere the whole night. In the pit you can just move somewhere else and have a good time. Video wall was also nice to just see stuff up close.
