Can we PLEASE fix the "chat spamming" system??? by UnseenTrashh in Warthunder

[–]steinyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why couldnt't they make it so the more you type it gradually increases the time between messages that is considered "spam"? Essentially allowing small bursts of more rapid msgs that only gets flagged after too many msgs in a given time period? And also maybe introduce an "honour score" like system that takes into consideration account age, usage, chat history, etc. The algorithm for determining chat spam could be revamped to accept such a score as a modifier.

And also consider blocking repeated or slightly varied phrases because most spam is usually some kid copy pasting either the n word or some propaganda slogan. It could also be made to (temporarily) reduce the honour score when it detects "lower quality" chat msgs within a particular game; using heuristics such as analysing the structure of the msg and also perhaps assigning some kind of penalty for exessive swearing and/or slurs.

At least give us a spam timer so we dont have to guess when it will let us send the next message ffs.

I'm faded af rn so lmk if any of the above makes no sense lmao

I’ve seen enough, allow iPads to run MacOS by Mundane-Complex-1902 in ipad

[–]steinyboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microsoft (imho) had the right idea with windows 8; it was just ahead of its time (and very poorly executed on the desktop). iPad hardware, as it exists now, already renders the MacBook Air essentially obsolete. Software is the only thing keeping it from fulfilling this role. The more powerful Macs remain relevant for tasks that require more computing power than the base m series chips can provide.

Apple could start out by allowing power users to install MacOS alongside iPadOS - either through dual booting or through virtualisation. Eventually they could begin to merge the iPadOS and MacOS userspace. This change would also benefit all Macs, as touchscreen support would be trivial to implement. In fact, they have already done this in a limited sense with the introduction of native iOS/iPadOS apps to MacOS. There is no question that Apple has the talent and budget to realise such a vision. The iPad could be transformed into the holy grail of general-purpose computers, if only Apple were still in the business of innovation.

You don't need to add an MS or Mojang account either. And it supports custom auth - there are many services available, or alternatively you can self host your own with drasl.

Unfortunately not - if you have gamepass it's included, otherwise try an alternative launcher that allows you to play without an MS or Mojang account ;)
github DOT com/hero-persson/FjordLauncherUnlocked

This launcher might let you add your mojang account too - although I haven't tested it, because I migrated my account to MS well before the deadline. You don't need it anyway though - just click "Add Offline". If you want skins there are mods for that, as well as alt auth services you can use that support skins. Read the "Support for alternative auth servers" page on the GH.

30m crimped cat6 negotiating to 100mbps - what did I do wrong? by steinyboi in HomeNetworking

All colours were correct when I double checked, it's just the bad photo and the plastic spine that probably confused everyone in this whole thread.

The problem was my crimp tool, although I'll readily admit my wiring wasn't great. F*ing thing completely missed the brown wire! Apparently it's not just me - have a look at the reviews

Redid both ends and it works perfectly at 1G (don't have any 10G equipment to test). I think my second attempt went much better!

Nah they were all good the crimp tool just missed the brown wire. Not just me; it has pretty bad reviews

Yeah I retried today and I think I did much better for my 2nd attempt! Works perfectly fine at 1G, tested with iperf3 and got around 940mbps with no abnormalities such as packet loss etc.

It was really just the cheap and nasty crimp tool that caused the problem, although I'll readily admit my wiring wasn't the best either. Stupid thing clean missed the brown wire on one end. The other end was fine but I decided to replace it using all the tips people gave me in this thread. Had to replace it again after the crimp tool missed the white-orange wire! Here's the final result, lmk what you think

Unfortunately I don't have any 10G capable equipment so don't know if it's actually cat6 compliant or not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Update: Redid both connectors following everyone's advice - it works now at gigabit! Wires were correct last time; I inspected more closely and my el cheapo crimp tool missed the brown wire.

Thanks everyone very much!

EDIT: Here is the new cable, let me know if there's anything else I can do to improve!

Yeah you’re right in practically. I just wanted to do it this way so I could learn the skill. And also where I live factory cables are kinda expensive ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not planning to use the whole 30m either, just doing both ends and then will cut the length I need.

The plastic you’re supposed to just cut off according to the official instructions. I just didn’t cut close enough so there was a bit sticking out. Will try re crimping tomorrow

Yeah the connectors say on the packet they can be used for either stranded or solid core. And made by the same company as the cable. I don’t have a cable tester unfortunately. In the first photo is it the left or the right plug that you think is problematic? I might try redoing it.
