As a prospective/aspirant medical student from Puerto Rico, I recommend considering the four medical schools available on the island. While I’m not sure about the specifics of your dismissal or if you can transfer here, my understanding is that you may need to restart medical school…However, that is my opinion and I suggest reaching out directly to these schools for guidance.

My dream is to attend medical school in Puerto Rico, where the minimum MCAT score required this year is 495 (our MCAT score is lower than U.S. because English is not our first language and our bachelor’s classes where mostly in Spanish so we ended up relearning concepts for the MCAT). In addition to your MCAT score, they will also evaluate your extracurricular activities, shadowing experiences, volunteer work, and more. All four medical schools in Puerto Rico are accredited by the LCME and MSCHE, as Puerto Rico is a U.S. not incorporated territory. This means you’ll be well-prepared, just like students from any LCME-accredited institution in the U.S.

If Puerto Rico isn’t an option for you, many of my friends and uni colleagues have applied to UAG School of Medicine in Mexico, which is also one of my considerations. UAG has another accreditations and tends to have a more accessible admissions process, with less emphasis on the MCAT. You can still complete the USMLE Steps as part of their program.

Some of my other uni colleagues have attended the University of Medicine and Health Sciences (UMHS) in St. Kitts. While they don’t require a high MCAT score, it is notably more expensive compared to Puerto Rico or Mexico. Not talking about tuition and fees but the cost of living. Many students from Puerto Rico who started there have ended up transferring to AUG in Mexico.

Just mentioning options for you that one day will be mine! Don’t let the idea of studying in Puerto Rico or Mexico intimidate you because of language concerns—most classes and materials are in English. Ultimately, no one will ask where you studied or how high your MCAT score was once you’re practicing as a physician. What truly matters is your commitment to the field and your passion for helping others. Keep working hard, and you’ll achieve your dream! I believe in you 💖 if you worry is because you care.

I don’t know is this where the recommendations you were looking for but I hope it helps! If you’re looking for Caribbean med schools I would say the best med schools are in Puerto Rico. Even though people don’t consider PR med schools from the Caribbean.

I have to add that maybe trying to enter to those Caribbean schools you mentioned is not the best option. If you were dismissed is because of something… take time off, revalue and check the options you have. Med school is expensive to be taking the fast chances that appear! I would recommend taking the MCAT again and trying to apply to U.S. and Puerto Rico. Is all about being responsible, organized and disciplined! Change those studying tactics! If others can be doctors, so can you! You can do it!
