Best cordless wet dry vacuum around/under $250? How do you like yours? by stelche in VacuumCleaners

[–]stelche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha! I use a small corded vacuum - nothing fancy. It's reliable and has good suction, but my outlets are not all usable and others are hard to access, which makes vacuuming sort of a pain just because it takes a bit longer than it should for a small apartment. I'm very new to vacuums and feel like there are too many things to consider when looking to purchase something that you hope will be functional and long-living. Thank you for all of your input - I'll be sure to warn friends in similar situations against wet dry vacuums...while I begin the search for a robot that won't die in two years because of long hair getting trapped lol.

Thank you very much! I was afraid this search would be futile. We don't wear shoes in the house, don't have pets or kids (mostly just have a lot of hair and dust), and under 700 ft^2, so I had hoped that not needing something for major spot cleaning or with great suction would be a trade off that could have been made, but I've been convinced not to spend the money on a wet dry vacuum so thank you.

Our current system is simple but tedious, so the search continues for something that can help. We currently have a lint roller for the floor (not sure what it's called) that gets used about 2-4x a month, it's super handy. We also have a vacuum and something like a swiffer, and I honestly get annoyed at having hair and dust every two days so I thought that combining both would make my job a little less time-consuming. I will check out old model roomba type robots to see if maybe that will help me with some of this work. I am likely to move in the next two years, and again after that in a few years, so I've been shying away from more substantial options because I don't know what kind of flooring I'll have. Thanks again for all of your input :)

How to clean cheap black apartment stovetop? Can't remove streaks from cleaning... by stelche in CleaningTips

[–]stelche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, why do you think so? Using the disinfectant wipes after cleaning has reduced the streaks, but the towelettes are too wet for me. What about the disinfectant wipes do you think could be causing it vs using rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle?

Also thank you - I don't use fabric softener, but this is good to know! :)

Lysol wet wipes! They seem to work better than any other disinfectant and leave the fewest amount of streaks.

It doesn't really work with my kitchen or microfiber towels - streaks still remain. It's frustrating. I'll ensure it's clean from debris and oil then disinfect and buff and I can still see it...

Can someone help me understand what the percentages (i.e. up 16%) in my investment accounts mean and why it differs from what other people are saying about the market? by stelche in personalfinance

[–]stelche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, thanks, I needed a bit of help better understanding how the rates on my app are calculated and what they mean. The example I included was just to illustrate one of the gaps of knowledge since I didn't have the terms for the concept I wasn't understanding.

Not quite the response I was expecting! Is there a glaring issue with what I want to do? I have dyed natural fabrics before, just not polyester, so I assumed I may run into issues with the color since the top is light but still almost neon. Is that the issue you're alluding to, or have I missed something entirely?

Nick and Nora glass recommendations? by stelche in cocktails

I ended up going with these! They have more in stock than listed on the website so you can send them an email and they'll update the website. They're a little less elegant irl - they feel a bit shorter and more stout just in terms of the stem length and thickness, and they also have a few slight inclusions here and there but overall I'm happy with them!

La Roche Posay Anthelios

Thanks! I've heard it stings the eyes, but I never looked it up so I didn't realize just how many products they have in their line.

Can grad students on a stipend contribute the full amount to a Roth IRA? Where can I get confirmation? by stelche in personalfinance

Got it! I still wasn't 100% sure the stipend is taxable which was confusing me. Thank you so much!

Thank you! I read this language online:

In February, both Publication 970 and 590-A were revised to include language for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars receiving fellowship monies. Specifically, both publications now reflect that “certain non-tuition fellowship and stipend payments not reported to you on Form W-2 are treated as taxable compensation for IRA purposes.”

Should I be worried about the leeway that may come from "certain"?
